Why does the timing matter at all?

I don't get the worry by either "side" about any of this.

No, I don't trust anything about any of this, but I think this DoJ effort will be short lived, pointless, the butt of jokes, and without merit.

I don't see any practicable way this can amount to anything of substance or have any real impact.

you are assuming this ministry will simply be used as an alert tool with no attempt at enforcement

if that is the case why have it tied to the DHS

Let's role play here.   Let's say someone talks about a lockbox for say, some defined benefits and how these are accounted for considering future outlays.

What's the end game here?   And to what purpose?

Google 'lockbox' and 2000.

What's the DoJ going to do when any sober honest person knew the lockbox idea was total BS .  The DoJ/ministry ran by the incumbent party is going to do what exactly?

What is the government solving for?   They won't be able to suppress this 'misinformation'..nor would they even call BS on it because of who's peddling it.

This is, no small segment of people, wanting to form a US Stasi.

One of the most senior US officials in the Pacific has refused to rule out military action against Solomon Islands if it were to allow China to establish a military base there, saying that the security deal between the countries presented “potential regional security implications” for the US and other allies.
Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, was part of a high-level US delegation to the Pacific country last week.

He said the US team, which also included the National Security Council coordinator for Indo-Pacific affairs, Kurt Campbell, had a 90-minute “constructive and candid” meeting with prime minister Manasseh Sogavare in which the US team detailed concerns about its recently signed security deal with China.

never knew the US shared a border with the Solomon Islands. Oh wait, we don't? You mean, they are a sovereign nation 8,000+ miles away?

It is standard "diplospeak" to say you're not ruling anything out.  Most understand it means nothing in the real world.
