This government effort will be the butt of jokes, and do almost nothing in the real world of any value.  We already have "fact checkers", a number of them, government efforts would be worse.

It will be interesting to see if this group is purely informational or if they actually will restrict free speech

I think they will just make a minor effort to be "fact checkers", until said minor effort is ignored widely and it disappears.  It's sop to worried libs, and not a very good one.

It would be entirely legal for some part of the DoJ to issue some press release claiming this or that is false.
