The board literally had no choice. Shareholders threatened to sue them into oblivion if they didn’t take the bid. Twitter is a dogshit company that’s never made any money- and the only reason the stock moved at all was because Musk announced he bought nearly 10% of the shares. He’s offered like a 48% premium on the share prices in his take over bid from where it was when it became public he was investing heavy into it. Literally the only reason it moved at all was bc of him and then the take over bid. If you actually look into the company- it’s a complete dogshit company that doesn’t make any money and not sure it ever will. Musk is doing this because he’s a very disciplined and principled guy and as he’s proven time and time again in his past- when he really believes in something- he goes all in and puts everything on the line.

This is a great day for free speech and for trying to turn the tide up of the pussyfication and woke mind virus which has infected this country.
I agree 100%

No reason why twitter cant be profitable

Its current leadership only cared about one thing and that wasnt making money

Im really enjoying the lib meltdown over this

If this happens it will put quite a bit of pressure for "free speech" to spread to other social media

Ehh, it happens because Elon really like Twitter. But it will be nice that he will keep it open for free speech, which means that people will be able to say horrible things about him on Twitter.

It would also be good to have some good free-speech news this week after that anti-free-speech mess with the state of Florida and Disney

Florida strips Disney World of its special quasi governmental status. You have to love it.

Incredible to see “liberals” bashing a Republican for stripping corporations of special powers and advantages they do not need nor deserve.

And motherf***king hilarious and pathetic to see politicians from other states begging Disney to leave Orlando and relocate Disney World to their states. Lmfao. F**king morons. Disney World is over 25,000 acres and it’s like 43 sq miles. They aren’t going anywhere. The cost to replicate the purchasing of that amount of land and all the construction to build out the theme park and it’s infrastructure today would be astronomical. You’re talking tens if not hundreds of billions. Even with increased taxation- they’ll still pay infinitely less tax in Florida than they would in most other states.

Government punishes free speech, while saying it’ll punish free speech, and one half of the aisle cheers.

The said truth of that it. Most people who talk a big game about “free speech” would not recognize the principles of it, and love to see it torn down to serve partisan needs.

(that’s not to say those corporate handouts are good, though they are what makes a state “good for business” in the modern parlance. That said, if they were considered bad, they would’ve been pull along time ago. This is just a government effort to punish free speech)

Give me a break. People already say horrible things about him. He’s doing this precisely because he believes in free speech. This will not make him any money. Twitter is a dogshit company.

It continues to amaze me that you don’t know what free speech actually is and that corporations are not actually people. And no one is restricting disneys free speech. They are free to say whatever they want. They RIGHTFULLY got stripped of powers they never should’ve had in the first place.

Don't forget the lengths Walt went through to get that property and how it ran on the edges of legality.... it never would have happened in the first place without the many shadow companies buying property seemingly non-related.

But he did do what he did, and now the region is dependent on it... to the point they self govern.

Seriously, why would the liberals love and protect Disney? It seems the Corp is everything they hate or report to hate.  Is it because Disney has a platform to exact change and the kind of social change liberals seek? And... it sure is.

Meanwhile, the right os giggling over DeSantis handling of Disney, which represents the American Dream as understood by most conservative Americans... "work hard, be smart, work harder, make friends and use them, and flourish", yet, Disney is loathed by hard line conservatives- and because they are such an effective tool for exacting change as directed by liberal agendas...

It's all about free speech and control of what is accepted and what isn't.  That's it and that's all, and it's stupid.

I read they've lost $40B since the leak of purposeful social engineering for alternate lifestyles... that ain't got nothing to do with tax breaks or self governing, it has to do with disapproval by shareholders of thr company's management.  If left to it's own device, it would find its way.  The money always pushed to what matches the contract with society, not what it wants to make society.

Now the bill about teaching kids as young as kindergarten about alternate lifestyles?  That ain't in the realm of public schools.... sorry- not sorry- it just ain't.  That's done by parents and by society left to it's own direction and not being herded by megacorporations in bed with one side of the political divide.

The reason that the Fantastic Beasts films are floundering is that A) the scripts are junk, and B) very few are interested in a grown-up Wizarding World.  Jo Rowling is getting into the screenplay business, instead of writing novels and then having screenwriters adapt them. Novels and screenplays are NOT the same.

As for the Disney special improvement district, what I've seen is that the original enabling legislation has rules and procedures for the operation and dissolution of said district, all of which the State of Florida has just attempted to end-run. Disney is going to keep the district, and the only ones profiting from it will be the lawyers.

Under the law, they are. And they have been.

And this view that speech is free if government means can be used to suppress it is, well, both simplistic and wrong. By that logic, I'm free to murder, because I can definitely do it, but will only face punishment afterwords.

It's funny these times we live in. It turns out party and politics is the main driver of so much. Free speech means people I agree with should be able to say whatever wherever, even on private platforms. But people I don't like or speech I don't like, the government can take many steps to stamp it out.

It's frankly a little sad.

Its not a matter of free speech that got the Florida legislature's dander up

Its the fact that Disney has stated that they will use every resource they have to defeat the Florida bill

Thats just crossing the line coming from a corporation benefiting from special arrangements that the state granted them

Basically Florida is telling Disney that if they are going to act with indifference then why should they get a special arrangement

Florida has taken no action to shut down Disney's right of free speech

They don't.

But a lot of folks think that open government retaliation for speaking out on public issues is a very, very bad thing. And frankly, we all should.

Its not a matter of retaliation

Its a matter of not granting special deals to a corporation which is very active to defeat what Florida voters overwhelmingly want

You act like the Florida government is its own being

Its not

Its the Florida voters who are acting

That's how speech works in a free society. You can not only say you oppose things, you can say you will try to enact change, even if it offends the politicians in charge.

Again, the government of the state is saying "If you say these things and try to participate in the political process, we will punish you." That it doesn't seem bad to a lot of folks is deeply, deeply worrisome.

But Disney could protect itself simply by not speaking or not trying to participate in the political process? Hmmm.

again the Florida government is not its own entity

Its the people of Florida doing this

and also again no action was taken to close down Disney but only not to treat them special

you can call it hurting free speech all you want but it just isnt
