Sometimes. Didn’t they just build a bunch of empty cities to make their GDP look extra shiny?
That's true when my brother went there on business4-5-6 yrs back he asked his escort(commissar really) about all the building and it was for the future was the answer.Many/most were vacant the next time he returned

Not sure what it is today at Purdue, but it was ECE when I was there as well.

That said, it was still separated from CS.

As I say above, in my estimation a key differentiator is that CS is a little bit more focused on software application development and is more abstracted from the hardware. Whereas the computer engineering folks may do just as much coding, but it's more likely to be a firmware focus where the code is inextricably linked to the hardware, i.e. making an electrical or electromechanical system do something.

There's enough overlap that learning one can lay the groundwork to do the other, with the exception that a CS major may be able to be a great firmware engineer, but that CS major is probably never going to be doing analog circuit design.

(Granted, most EEs will never touch analog circuit design... Analog experts these days are few and far between, and extraordinarily well compensated as a result.)
Yes all is true, my point being the the "computer industry" is vast, and rapidly growing, and both CS and EEs are required for it.  Industries in which MEs are common, are either not growing as quickly, or in some cases are declining.

Hence, I'm not surprised that EE is the most common of engineering disciplines.  I probably could have spelled that out more clearly in my initial response.

ME would be much more common if we did more manufacturing here.

Of course.  In a roundabout way, that's pretty much the point I was making.

Sadly we've also allowed tons of our EE jobs to move overseas as well.

We employed some Paper Science and Engineering types who made some serious change and lived in the country where the plants were.  If you like that lifestyle, it's a great major.  Low COL and great scenery and hunting etc.

For a while, my cousin headed up marketing for the Quilted Northern Bath Tissue division at Georgia Pacific.  He was still pretty young and was dating at the time, so he used to tell women he was in the "paper industry."  He was making all kinds of bank, so ultimately it worked out fine for him...

Well, he was, sort of.  We had brand managers who were all MBAs and they did well, if they languished they'd snag a great job somewhere else.

They were up or out in that field, and they ran the company, still do.  They couldn't understand R&D and it hurt us a lot.

Yeah, but I bet the US has more lawyers than China does.

Wow.

Clearly I need to post more links about the housing market, and do it more often.

From that sprung multiple pages whatever this is about. 😂😂😂😂

And not a single comment about the stuff I posted.🥴🥴

I wonder what would’ve happened if I had posted articles about, whatever this is about?

I think folks don't often click links without perhaps a paragraph of explanation.

True.  That’s why I wrote one.

I think 847 read, then transitioned immediately to this topic.

Degrees/Jobs?

here is what I know about degrees:

Mine:
1 Bachelor of Business Admin - Major Finance/Econ
2 Master of Science in Finance- Corporate Finance/ Investment

My kids:
Kid 1- Bachelors Degree- Nursing
Soon to be Doctorate, CRNA
kid 2-Bachelors- Biomedical Engineering

Guess which one came out of school with a much higher compensation package lol. Soon to change.

Kid 1 took the early lead, but is gonna get chased down?

(I was going to make a point to read the housing stuff, but I’m trying to balance posting with doing my actual job)

The other way around, most likely.
