I have actually followed them before. Lindsay is kind of a nut, but Pluckrose is pretty reasonable. And many of their criticisms are good. But they also tend to miss the forest in the trees. Badge points out, rightly, that African people were happy to sell slaves. But they were overwhelmingly people they captured during conflicts and wars with other tribes. More recently, Rwanda had an entire genocide where the one ethnic group attacked another.
People constantly chime in, on this site, about how various tribes flock together. And perhaps it is. But there is another side to this coin. Some groups are going to get some unearned benefits and some are going to get some unearned problems. The idea that we should ban talking about this, which everyone knows is true, is pretty crazy. It is the height of political correctness.
Oh I am actually all for talking about virtually all aspects of this “tribal“ flocking thing- ecause it is actually very real.
But let’s not pretend that’s what’s being objected to because it’s not. What’s being objective to is the idea that one tribe is the owner and to blame for all of it. And that is very real, and that is being taught, and that is being promoted, how many politicians, many universities, and many in the main stream media.
I am on the executive committee for diversity and inclusion, newly formed in the organization I work for and for good reason. These things are open we discussed virtually all of the time and we are reading this material virtually all of the time. Not only do we not run from the conversation we seek it. But that doesn’t mean we all agree on solutions.
for example you may or may not agree with the following new proclamation:
A person can’t be “non-racist“. If you are white and are not an anti-racist activist, then by definition you are a racist. That is one of the new theories and teachings.
wow I don’t hold it against somebody who has that opinion I certainly disagree with that and would find it totally inappropriate for that to be taught in a school, but it actually is being taught and that is a fact.
