Stressed? That's... A stretch.

He said "peace" once in his entire speech that day. He said peacefully 18 minutes into his hour-and-20-minute-long speech. He closed the speech, an hour later with this "fight like hell or you won't have a country any more" line.

Again, I'm not saying he crossed the legal line to incitement. But saying he "stressed" that they be peaceful is just not real.

The people who entered the capitol are culpable for their actions--they are not puppets dancing on Trump's strings. But he's not without some blame as well.
They're the rabble.  He was the rouser.   Pretty clear.

He's not blameless.

Nor was it any kind of "coup attempt."

that's great and I agree, but many would like to see the unruly extremist Trump supporters mellow out, come together with liberals and heal the divide in the country.

coming up with some credible evidence that the election was NOT stolen might help in that regard.

I'm not stating that the election was stolen or not stolen.

I'd just like to be able to form an opinion one way or another.
It's almost impossible to prove a negative. So how can we "prove" the election was not stolen, against claims offered with no evidence that it was?

POTUS and his legal team spent weeks arguing in the court of public opinion that the election was subject to widespread fraud, widespread irregularities, and that it was stolen. Then they went into court and either had no evidence or argued procedural battles that didn't even allege fraud.

So I'll prove the election wasn't stolen when you prove there's no Easter Bunny.

Yes, presuming we adhere to the Constitution, the EC is what counts.  So, we are supposed to ignore the national popular vote, in legal terms.  It's the law and all that.
Most elections go to the person with the most votes, as opposed to running it through a very weird algorithm. In any event, claiming the election was stolen is doubly ridiculous given the only chance Trump had was literally counting some people's votes more than others.

I'm sayin it can't be proven either way

one side wants the other side to just believe the election was honest and true with no wrong doing

we all know this isn't going to happen.

I'd just like more assurance that the election was fair than what I've seen at this point.  Knowing full well that's not going to happen.

I'm just pointing out that the side that thinks there was wrong doing has little reason to change their mind.

Seems pretty clear it was an attempt to get the results of the election thrown out via less than legal means. Whatever you want to call that is whatever it is.

this is exactly what many folks thought about Biden's chances.

ya gotta admit Joe isn't the most charismatic politician in his own state
yet sleepy Joe got more votes than any US politician EVER in history
just seems a bit far fetched to some

It's the law, so that's a pretty good reason to do it.

Joe got more than 11 million votes in CA, a state never in doubt, so one presumes there was no wide spread shennigans there.

Obama got fewer than 8 million.

There are obvious reasons for the large increase in the popular vote that don't appear to be related to fraud.

And the only reason they believe it in the first place is that Trump spent months telling them it happened, without actual evidence or proof.

It was a propaganda campaign, and it worked.

Let me spin it back at you. What evidence would they accept to change their mind? What would it actually take?

A lot of people that didn't vote for Hillary in 2016--in fact some who voted for Trump in 2016--swapped and voted Biden in 2020.

That vote wasn't pro-Biden. It was anti-Trump.

nothing would change many of their minds.  It wouldn't take a bunch of evidence to change my mind or many of the more reasonable folks

I agree that most of Biden's votes were anti-Trump

just as many of Trump's votes 4 years ago were anti-Hillary
