I made homemade gyros yesterday. I must say I was very pleased.
Yeah what kind of meat did you use?

More importantly,  how do you make your tzatziki sauce.

The meat while important, yes,  can't make it a gyro, not wo excellent pita, or tzatziki.   Of course I love some red onion and tomatoes too.

Yeah, but why bother wrapping the fries with the dog? Is there some packaging shortage I'm not aware of?

Seems like separate packaging would be the ideal, and then people who want fries on their hot dog have all the freedom in the world to put fries on their hot dog.
Same reason the sandwich was invented.  It's portable, on the go, a nod to tradition.  Frankly I like the portion of fries, not too many, just enough.

Nothing says you can't place an order for more fries.
As my brother said as a teenager,  every place is all you can eat, they aren't going to stop you from ordering more.

It's a gimmick. Nothing more.

The meat was a leg of lamb that I ground and then made into a paste in the food processer with all of the other spices and onions and garlic.

I baked it in a loaf pan in the toaster oven as we do not have a complete kitchen yet. That will be this week, I hope.

For the sauce, I strained the yogurt and cucumber. Added some salt, garlic, olive oil and red wine vinegar.

The pita was from a farmer's market.

I wish I had that  much time on my hands.

About 30 minutes of active. If you can't find that, you need a time manager.

I just read in the Chicago paper that businesses there and across the country have boarded up their windows in advance of the election results.

Given that the former VP (ehh, current senator) is favored to win, nothing bad is going to happen as a result.

If somehow the POTUS wins again, cities burn.

Glad to be living in a bubble right now, behind walls and gated.

I see no such preparations around here.  Back when there were protests about police shootings, one bank near us partly boarded up their large plate glass windows.

I saw personally two "protests" that were not violent, rather noisy for a minute or two.

I think this city will stay mostly calm.

In other news, I overheard two folks talking about not understanding why the one who wins the popular vote is not President.  Neither of them said "electoral college", they just did not appear to understand the System.  They weren't saying it should change, they just didn't understand it, probably 28 years old or so.

That's grade school education stuff. At least it was when I was coming up. Perhaps things changed (duh).

And these kids are gonna vote today. Jeez.

I worry that when POTUS loses, he's going to incite his fans via tweet to cause mayhem.

We found out last time, again, how many folks did not understand the EC and that the real vote is December 14.
