That was 360 brake horsepower using a more liberal method than current SAE net horsepower.

It probably was nearer 260 SAE net hp.
back in the day it wasn't unusual to under report the real HP ratings

It depends. If all you care about in the word "sporty" is 0-60 times, it'll beat a C8 Z06.

If you actually want to turn, though...

I'll consider it sporty if it launches that quickly

especially at that weight

My 14yo son has gotten into the Fast And Furious movies and a bunch of TikTok videos, that tend to feature the Japanese sportscars.  So now apparently his taste is shifting from the Dodge Challenger, to these two:

Nissan 370z:

Toyota GR86:

In looking at the specs, the Toyota is pretty quick. It's got a small 2.4L flat 4 engine making 228 hp, but it's also a very small and light car, so it's still got a 0-60 of 6.1 seconds I think.

The 370z on the other hand, appears to be a race car.  0-60 in 4.9 seconds from the 3.7L V6 making 332 hp.

The Nissan is also more expensive and honestly I like the looks of the Toyota better.

There's also a twin sister-car to the Toyota made my Subaru, the BRZ.  They shared the design of the car and the engine is actually a Subaru design, not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.  Here's the Subaru, looks very similar to the Toyota:

The Suburu flat fours have one advantage, low center of gravity, maybe a few others, they tend to be rough, but that was worked on with balance shafts.

The two "twins" are decent cars, pretty sporty, fast enough for me, and have manuals.

Yeah he is convinced that he wants a manual.  Probably seen way too many TikToks and Ken Block Gymkhana features on Youtube.

I have watched bits of the F&F movies, the way they shift in them is of course hilarious and faked.  He probably thinks it's somehow cool.  They are tearing along at high speed, say 100  mph, and the dude will suddenly downshift and take off, as if he waited on something.
