The "if you don't like it, you can leave" narrative is such BS.  Our country has nothing but taken in people, en masse.  You see, we adjust, improve, and move on.  It's called progress.
And progress is undefeated.  It can be slow at times, but yeah, if you're in the way of progress, instead of suggesting you leave....I'd just predict you'll fall in line or at worse, just age out.

I think it's also complicated because while rural areas are free of that congestion, their links to the rest of places are also pretty often government reliant. And if there's less government, all those things are more expensive farther out. Not to mention, it's pretty hard to farm a ton of things in this country independently without government subsidy. 

Basically, my thought it there's a modest amount of government infrastructure that boosts rural places that would see increased prices, were it not subsidized.

Progress isn't opening the gates and leaving everyone eat for free unchecked. Whether it's corporate write offs/subsidies or welfare assistance/benefits to those that either didn't need or earn such.The Constitution or Bill of Rights didn't include enslaving the working class to free loaders

It's one of my great weaknesses. I like having civil conversation. It's in fact why I come here. Because in a world where people meander about deciding to say things because they'll get some jollies from making people mad, this place is a nice receive. Was, anyway.

Well, I get that. But all 5 million old Florida folks aren't from out of state. And all nearly 6 million Californians older than 65 aren't from in-state either. And assuming the rates are roughly average (I know different states pay out different amounts and there are a bunch of other factors, but I couldn't find the raw data there), any contributions coming out of a state like Ca. are despite a larger payout than the one going to Florida for those benefits. 

Now, the flipside, I guessed, would be that Floridians are working at a lower rates than Californians, since more of their population is older. However, and I just looked this up, it turns out 54.4 percent of Floridians are between 20-62 (my rough guess on working pop, adjusted for the data I could find. Can tweak if interest), but that number only jumps 57.3 in California, which has a difference of 8 percent in terms of old people, but it's counteracted by 5 percent in terms of 19 and younger. 

Anyway, it's an interesting element, but I don't know if its super dramatic. Maybe notable.
