When I was hourly we got paid OT for anything outside our schedule. We worked a rotating 36 and 48 hour work week. So in the first week if you worked a 4th 12 hour day you would get 36 hours of regular pay and 12 hours of OT 1.5.

Any day that was 7th consecutive was 2x, even if it was your scheduled day. Made some pretty nice checks over the years.

Now I’m straight salary. It’s interesting how your attitude changes. I make less money but I’m far happier and have much more time.

They made Supergirl's sister a lesbian in the TV show.  That doesn't bother me, totally okay with it, other than they then forced a lot of awkward, contrived storylines into a comic book show in order to serve their agenda rather than entertain the audience.

The ensuing bad writing and awkward, clunky direction are why my family and I stopped watching the show, not because a hot chick decided to kiss other women.

Our modern habit of marketing via trolling is kinda weird.

Of course, certain comic book storylines are spiralingly insane and incoherent anyway.

My question is why do this? It seems unnecessary.

They have been writing Superman comics since 1938. Tough to keep writing the same story. Also hard to sell Superman comics in other countries if all he cares about is America.

All true.

But also, younger generations love to tear down the institutions of older generations, whether they're good or bad.  It's nature's way, it's a form of social entropy.

Well sure. America only exists due to the willingness of younger generations to tear down older institutions.

I always figured Lois Lane for a bit of a beard...

Exactly. Same reason soap operas have bizarre and barely plausible storylines. They ran out of the good stuff decades ago.

The year is 1938 and the Great Depression is in full swing. Things are starting to get tense in Europe with the recent annexation of Austria into Germany. Meanwhile in Cleveland, Ohio two young men are about to realize a dream that would bring hope to the American people and publish one of the most iconic characters of all times.

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were both born to Jewish immigrants, the Siegel’s from Lithuania and Shuster’s from the Netherlands and Ukraine. In 1931 the two became fast friends at Cleveland’s Glenville High School and ended up creating comics together. At the age of 16, both Siegel and Shuster were already accomplished comic artists. Shuster drew a comic about a character named Jerry the Journalist, and Siegel sold his works under the pseudonym Hugh Langley. Together they tended to work on sci-fi inspired comics or stories inspired by the folk tale of John Henry. They created a story based on these ideas about a villain they called “Superman.”, Superman as a villain didn’t last long, though. The pair created a new hero, also named Superman, who developed into the beloved character we know today.

It was never said aloud, but Joanne Siegel, the model who served as the visual inspiration for the original Lois Lane (and Jerry’s wife), always thought that the death of Siegel’s father had a lot to do with the creation of Superman. Siegel’s father died of a heart attack in 1932 during a robbery at the family clothing store. It is reported the earliest sketches show Superman saving a man at gunpoint that looked a lot like his father.

In the end Siegel and Shuster sold the rights to everything connected to Superman to Action Comics for a total of $130.

Some of the pay practices companies have had are getting exposed in a major way.
Drayage trucking is the most important yet by far the least paid part of the supply chain. To no one's surprise, that is the biggest holdup coming off the West Coast docks.

Why not?
None of it is necessary.  It's a fucking comic book.
