Ysitting on my deck, beautiful evening, the wife said she would fix dinner.
I'm on the hook for at least some of dinner. We're doing a spicy Thai beef salad, and at the VERY least I'm cooking the steak. Probably splitting a few other responsibilities too...

OAM, have you joined the VHEMT? You seem pretty sad about the state of humanity--I can't disagree--so I'm hoping that you've pledged not to continue the species...
You're in luck!  I have no desire to produce offspring.  Everyone, rejoice!!!
I don't even like taking out a loan, much less being on the hook for another human being's life for 20 years.
No thanks!

Economics won't let me retire yet.

Looking forward to the day when it's my wife's decision ;-)
wife is a bit younger than me and with another 6 years she will have health insurance provided when she retires and she doesn't want me to just hang around while she is working.  Though she has suggest I quit my current job and take another even if it is less money just to remove a bunch of the stress.

But Retirement is calling me in a very strong way

If you want to live in hell's waiting room, might as well just go to Arizona or Nevada instead. Lower taxes.

The reason people don't live in Eureka is because there aren't enough jobs. The reason people don't live in the east end of SBC is because it sucks.

I love living in the Phoenix area. Can't imagine living anywhere else on a permanent basis

I haven't been to Kingman, but it looks okay to me.

50 miles from Lake Havasu.

Less than 100 miles from Vegas, less than 200 miles from Phoenix, with none of the hustle and bustle.

Maybe there are a lot of rattle snakes or some such, I dunno.

Me too, lately. On one hand, I'd do it today. On the other hand, the money's good.

Definitely not ready for retirement, I've got to get the kids through college first.  So another ten years for me.  No biggie, I like what I do well enough.

I always said 55 and I'm done. Welllp, that's just months away now. Maybe I'll go to 57.

Maybe.

I love being retired.  I told myself I would start doing what I wanted to do now, no matter how silly it might seem, of course being considerate of my wife (who is a wonder, so that isn't hard).  I've been fortunate financially, the COVID thing really crimped out travels of course, I've taken to exploring restaurant options around the city on Wednesdays now (I've yet to be wowed).  I'm getting back into shape after 20+ years of sitting, that part isn't easy at all, but I have some goals for myself over time.  Your body past 65 starts having a lot of strange pains from nothing.  I'm signed up to play baseball in Nov and Jan at the Braves spring training facility, something I really love doing, and I'm still able to play reasonably well.  The ex-pros are great and it's a lot of fun to compete.

The odd thing, to me, is how I get up pretty early in the morning, hardly ever past 6:30, sometimes at 5 AM.  That was a struggle when I was working, getting up, and now I get up because I'm awake.  I'm a bit stuck working on Book 6, it's one I started way back, and I just am not into it, I'm thinking about starting something new.

We both really enjoy living where we are.  My advice for a retirement location is Number One live in a place that encourages walking.  If you can walk, your quality of life is way ahead of those who cannot.

well, my brother lives in Colleyville so somewhere near the DFW area
I'm a small town guy so perhaps a quiet area north and west of there out west of 35W near or on a golf course
speaking of retirement, I beat 847.  I retired at the end of June.  My ex-boss insisted.

retirement doesn't suck, but the money isn't good

I got a speeding ticked going through Kingman

on my way to Vegas in the mid 1970s

I lost the ticket and never paid it

I guess theres a warrant for my arrest in Kingman so Im not going back
They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.

Photos: 16 years later, how Atlantic Station continues to change | Urbanize Atlanta

Used to be a steel mill, then opened in 2005 with some fanfare, and was hurt in the recession, but seemingly has recovered now and is a something.  A bit sterile for my tastes, but interesting.  The condo tower is slowly turning into a decent place I'm told by a realtor.

The airport Sheraton is to be imploded shortly to make room for another runway.

Sheraton Atlanta Airport Hotel Set for Sunday Implosion | What Now Atlanta

One could end up taxiing for a while if you land on an outer runway I suppose.
