The Varsity shuts its doors in Athens after nearly 90 years – WSB-TV Channel 2 - Atlanta (wsbtv.com)

I have mixed feelings about this, it's an old tradition, but the fact is their food isn't very good, the ones in ATL the same.

It was a fun visit when I was a kid, but I guess my palet has improved since.

The only time I ever went there I was mostly unimpressed.

I've been to The Varsity in Atlanta and the one in Marietta when I lived there, but in those two years I never made it to Athens.

I was unimpressed with both ones I visited though.

The main Varsity in Atlanta is kind of a "visit once" sort of place, maybe, but if you don't, meh.

Tested: 2020 Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram HD Pickup Pull-Off (caranddriver.com)

Towing vehicles, amazing torque figures.

But whether it's a matter of hardware difference or blind faith, Chevy engineers must believe in their driveline more than Ford's number crunchers trust their rotating bits, as there's a big difference in how the Silverado converts its potential energy into kinetic energy. Where the F-250 limits torque in 4Lo, the Silverado is champing at the bit to be unleashed. The Duramax is making enough torque when we release the brake that all four tires threaten to spin. The tractor-pull regulars who have gathered to watch our little contest are so impressed by the Silverado's dig from a standstill that the crowd spits out a string of expletives.
The Chevy's shifts are more assertive than the Ford's, and the rev-happy diesel never comes off boil as it makes forward progress. The Silverado reaches 150 feet 1.7 seconds quicker than the Ford, hustling 1.6 mph faster at that mark. While that might not seem like much, when your top speed is 20.9 mph, it's enough to get the job done. The heaviest-in-test Chevy makes a triumphant run, grinding to a stop 3.7 feet past a full pull. As we always say, it's not the size of the torque output that matters; it's how you use it.

Food was lousy.  Dreamsicle type frosted orange was refreshing on a hot day I suppose.

I think most cars today are remarkably reliable.  Some folks will have issues with any make.

I drove Chevys from 1995 to 2018.  I had a Ford for 10 years in there as well, and I currently also have a Ford.  I haven't noticed any difference in quality/reliability.

The best car-- by far-- we've ever owned, was my i s c & a aggie wife's Honda Accord.

And the worst car-- by far-- we've ever owned, was my i s c & a aggie wife's Toyota Camry Solara.

the new Ford F-150 Hybrid seems to be impressive

Debuting in the refreshed-for-2021 F-150, the PowerBoost hybrid pairs Ford's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 with a 47-hp electric motor, making this the highest-output powertrain in the current F-150 lineup.  The motor is sandwiched between the engine and the standard 10-speed automatic, while a 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery tucks under the bed. The battery may seem a bit small for a vehicle of this size, but Ford chose it because it's easy to package and less costly than larger packs, and its weight won't considerably impact the all-important towing and payload capacities. Combined output for this powertrain is a stout 430 horses and 570 pound-feet of torque

it's got the towing capacity for utee.......

the max payload and towing capacities for the hybrid are impressive, at 2120 and 12,700 pounds, respectively.

The motor isn't designed to provide meaningful acceleration on its own, but it does allow for short periods of electric cruising at low speeds. Transitions from gas to electric power are almost imperceptible, as is the changeover from regenerative to friction braking. The hybrid scores 24 mpg on the EPA's combined cycle, 4 mpg more than a regular EcoBoost 3.5 F-150 manages.

the best feature for Texans must be its onboard generator system. It uses the engine to turn the motor, which provides up to a substantial 7.2 kilowatts of electricity to outlets in the bed.

Yup, I've been asking for a hybrid pickup for years.

That towing and payload capacity aren't really any different than what I have now, but I imagine the electric motor provides a nice increase in torque whilst under load, which is always welcome during towing.

The electric motor would only produce that power for relatively short periods of course.

If you towed something up a long hill and needed the electric motor, at some point it probably would have to stop.

But a hybrid truck design is a very good idea if not too expensive, you could put in a larger battery but cost goes up, payload goes down.
