Was reading an interesting article about drug dogs, basically that they're extremely ineffective in accurately detecting drugs. But they are very effective at indicating drugs are present, which allows them to function as probable cause on four legs. That in turn can cause some issues for innocent people.

In retrospect, probably a system that needs to be phased out (this would be different than the dogs that actually lead you toward something, though honestly, who really knows how good those are either?)
Entire "war on drugs" needs to be phased out. Complete waste of over $1 trillion to the US tax payer. Wars in Middle East with Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya and all the additional bombings in Syria, Somalia, Yemen, and Pakistan have cost the US tax payer over $7 trillion easily if not more.

$8 trillion completely and utterly wasted down the freaking toilet. Imagine what this country would look like if they had spent that money on infrastructure, public housing, R&D, healthcare. My goodness.

Government likely would have wasted the money anyway, much of it, but the alternative would have done something beneficial I guess.

They pulled the guy out of line and took him away.  No denouement.  But the dog was at least selective, and the cruise had been to Jamaica.

I had that happen once. I was extremely drowsy and walked through the metal detector with my hands in my pockets. It was an Israeli airline and they were not amused.

The madness needs to stop.

No one was in custody for any of the shootings, and detectives were investigating.

Back from camping. Whoot. Nothing like trying to sleep in a tent with 3 kids and 2 dogs.

You are supposed to give the kids and dogs their own tent.

So, I have been offered a contract to publish my Book by Pegasus, with a catch of course.  I've been reading up on this sort of thing, there are "vanity publishers" who will generate a few copies of your writings for a substantial fee and then do nothing else.  This is a scam, they will print anything you send, even random letters.  There is no vetting at all.

Then there are standard publishing house contracts, and then there is a hybrid, which is what my offer is, they wanted 2500 British pounds from me up front.  I'm trying to understand what else they do aside from print up some copies, there isn't much in the contract requiring them to market or distribute or anything else.  I'm still rereading it.

On the other hand, Amazon-Kindle has a nice option with which I am pleased, thus far, they print up a book of your design for a pretty small fee, less than $4 per paperback, and offer it for sale as an ebook on their site with 60% royalty of the retail price.

I think I'll stay with Amazon, I have no expectation of being the next mega author, I just enjoy writing, and some folks have said they enjoyed reading my stories.  Few readers have offered substantive comments, beta is one of two exceptions, and CWSooner is another.  I sent the latter hard copies of the three books and would send same to beta if he wants them.  I am finishing proofing Book Four now, which I think will conclude the saga, and I'll be on to something different.
