So of the 22 starters in that 2006 RB, only Bush received things he shouldn't?

let's just say he was ineligible that season
But as an actual football player, very possibly the best.

(I don’t know he was clearly better than young, but I don’t really see much argument young was clearly better either, in the actual period for which the award is given)

I'd happily give Crouch's trophy to Grossman if Eddie George would give his up to Tommie Frazier

Bush vs Fresno:  23 car, 294 yds, 2 TD
Bush vs UCLA:  24 car, 260 yds, 2 TD...vs a much better team and rival, the very next game.
.
VY:  65% comp, 3000 yds passing, 26 TD, 10 INT, 164 rat
155 car, 1000 yds, 6.8 ypc, 12 TD
38 total TD.....very good pass rating....amazing yards per carry, except...
.
his RB averaged 7.4 yards per carry.

Bush averaged 8.7 ypc for the season on 200 carries.  5th-best all-time and 2nd behind Pruitt if you up the carries threshold.  2nd-highest....ever.   He won the Heisman in a landslide WITH his own teammate taking some votes away, finishing 3rd.

And if you take Young's best game away, pffft, forget it, he's another Michael Bishop or Joe Hamilton (you may have to look them up - fellow Heisman runners-up).

Did anyone say that?

Bush is being brought up because he's the only one of those 22 starters who won a Heisman and then had it stripped.

The other 21 are irrelevant to that discussion.

I think Young's legacy isn't that he was snubbed for the Heisman, but that he showed a QB can shoulder the load running the ball and he may have been the first of his kind.  More players like him began populating teams and HCs stopped treating their QBs with kid gloves, letting them risk injury.  So while Young may have been the first high-volume passer-runner, better players came along and expanded on that (Tebow, Newton, etc).
.
I think that legacy is plenty good and just for a great player who had a great season, but is probably overrated for one all-time great game.

I guess he should've held onto it with 2 hands.

FWIW, Frazier gets the same treatment as Young, thanks to his game vs Florida.

(ducks and covers)

He produced under 2,000 total yards and "only" 31 total TDs.  Kind of a Rocket Ismail syndrome.  Your eyes say WOW, but his actual production is MEH.  Ismail only scored 6 TDs when he was runner-up for the Heisman.  Isn't that insane?  6.  Rushing + receiving + returns.  6.

Oh I don't really care about the Heisman.  2005 wasn't the first year, and it wasn't the last year, that the best player was passed over. :)

I'm just jawing.  I'm happy Vince played at Texas, and really wish he had come back for his senior year.

Sometimes, I think he wishes that too.  He's admitted openly that he was very immature when he entered the NFL, and that it affected his relationships with coaches and teammates, and ultimately his production at that level.

You'd think NFL teams would vet maturity, lol.

I hate when kids leave early then don't even get drafted.  That's rough.

except Eddie averaged 5.9 on 328 carries

in his big game, THE GAME

Timmy runs for a record 313 yards in Michigan's 31-23 win over Ohio State

and it overshadowed a 105-yard, one touchdown game by Ohio State's highly touted Heisman Trophy hopeful, Eddie George.

I think they try a lot of the time, but young strikes me as an example of the it only takes one asshole principal.

I remember watching one kid who left early, didn’t get drafted, and was pretty much OK with it. He, correctly, knew that his quarterback situation was about to go from very good very bad, and he knew he wasn’t getting much faster and he wasn’t getting much taller, and he was already a high-end technician on the field with very good statistics.

it helped that he had a very good family situation to fall back on, but he ultimately worked himself in the league and got I think one decent contract

And that kid, was Albert Einstein.
