I would support age limits for Federal appointees and electeds.  I'm less sanguine about term limits, but the latter has such a low probability I don't think about it as a practicable solution to anything.  I do think at 70 a person should really be retired.  Maybe some elite scientist somewhere can still make contributions, OK fine.

But in Congress or in the courts?  I don't think so.
I think it would be good for someone like that to be restricted to a contributory role. Like you age out and then can be an advisor/worker of sorts.

Granted, the wrong “advisor” becomes shadow leadership, but that’s life

There was one guy at work who told me he wanted to work until he dropped, he said he loved coming to work every day.  Another guy hit mandatory retirement at 65 and DID keep coming into work.  Both were at the highest level in R&D for nonmanagement, they both enjoyed a lot of "status".  Needless to say, I had a different opinion personally.

I think my boss was shocked when I put in for retirement, he made some effort to talk me out of it, I made it clear I had made my decision.  He also stayed a lot longer after I left I understand, for no perceptible financial reason.

There were some periods when I liked my job, I'd go in on Saturdays fairly often, those period were not prolonged and by the end I was completely burned out.

I think by 70 a person is pretty well time for the pasture.  Go play baseball or something easy.

People get addicted to being needed and having some level of power. Or they just don’t know who they are outside a job.

I get it to a degree. A friend worked with a fairly high up LEO official. He should’ve handed off the department a while ago, but can’t do it. To a degree drove off many of the ambitious people under him tired of waiting. So now he isn’t willing to leave quietly and people around him aren’t ready to take over.

The point is that having people over 70 working in politics isn't needed.  No shortages of people willing to run for office that I'm aware of.

Go be old doing something else.  We're all good here.
