Humorous.  His executive orders were so “ nothing” that the Dems went and tapped all of their appointed activist liberal judges and filed an injunction against all of them.

That is their entire platform really. Make sure borders stay open, make sure to fight deportation of illegal aliens, make sure to keep biological men in womens sports, and oppose anything the President does.  And they can’t figure out why their party is experiencing historically low support.
Like I said, his base loved it.  The people that hate him, hated it.  And most people in the middle knew to ignore them.

I'll also say, it will never happen, because whichever party holds the Presidency will never give it up, but the expansion of executive orders, and how both parties use them, is the worst thing to happen in American politics in a generation

Calling it now - Bill Belichick's tenure at UNC will be a runaway disaster. There isn't anything serious about how he's handling himself as UNC's new coach:

"Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend showed rapper Lil Wayne the ropes in Chapel Hill over the weekend, where the trio posed for a photo and spent time together at an indoor UNC practice facility."

Browsed through a CNBC article this morning and this is a telling paragraph, to me.  It indicates what many of us have speculated, that the target isn't other nations' tariffs, rather it's other nations' entire slate of anti-competitive behaviors that are directly harmful to US industry.

I think that this is a very important point.  @utee94 has raised this a few times and tariffs are only a portion of the problem, the "entire slate of anti-competitive behaviors" needs to be addressed.  I *THINK* (hope) that is what Trump's team was attempting to reference with their goofy math on the original tariff rollout.

On its face that's a pretty silly desire and an unlikely outcome, but given Trump's historical MO of pushing for 100% of something he says he wants, and then bargaining back down to whatever a more likely and realistic goal would be, I think it's reasonable to believe that he doesn't actually believe in, or even want, an even trade balance with every country.  What he really seems to want, is something more favorable and less disadvantageous to the USA, than what currently exists.

Is this the way to get it?  I guess we'll see.

I never totally know how to feel about this approach to all this. It's kind of a "believe what you want if it's good" outlook. There's no argument against it because it's premised on throwing out him saying what he actually means.

It assumes that what we see isn't what is, but it's actually what we want to see in very charitable terms. Basically, have a lot of faith, and it'll all work out.

(It also leaves us to basically make up where we think the actual goal with tariffs is. Does the head of the country think they have actual value, or they're just a negotiating ploy? And then businesses have to actually adjust to the lack of stable ground there)

I'm just looking at his history.  This is definitely what he does, time and again.  I'm not making a value judgment on whether or not his goals are good or bad, nor am I making a value judgment on whether or not his bargaining style is effective at achieving his goals.  I'm just commenting that historically, this is following the same pattern as many other negotiations he's engaged in.

I agree that it leads to uncertainty in the market and among business leaders.  I can tell you that I've been heavily engaged in a ton of scenario planning over the past two months as a direct result of this specific topic.  This risk management portion of my job has moved from maybe 10% of my daily work, to perhaps 80%.

ETA: I also hear you, about not knowing exactly what his goals are, so how can we measure success or failure?  He obviously likes to keep it that way, so he can claim whatever level of success he chooses.  But I don't see that as being particularly different from any other politician over the past few decades.
