Why do republicans often point to the stock market strength as the economy being healthy, but when iti's in free-fall under Trump, it's not a good litmus test?

Poo-pooing a 2-day, $6 trillion dollar loss due to one man's stupidity is kind of amazing.

Aside from all of our squabbling, I actually joined a site a month ago to start investing in index funds.  I got approved, but played wait-and-see due to you-know-who in office. 
Not investing turned out to be the right move, eh?

You didn't "lose" unless you (foolishly) sold. Same thing happened when Covid hit. People panicked and lost their asses. Those of us who (wisely) stayed in made out big-time.

There is a difference in loss of cash versus loss of value. Everyone lost value last week. But if you didn't sell, you still have the same numbers of shares - and growth potential.

The phrasing here is a little confusing. It kind of reads like you’re telling us to not put money in index funds, but I’m not 100% sure if that’s what you mean.

I was telling him to invest in the index fund. 

I prefer actively managed funds, but I get that indexes are cheaper.

You'll never, ever convince me Trump isn't stupid.  He doesn't read.  He's learned that bullying tactics from a wealthy person often work.  A person chosen at random from this board is smarter than he is, easily.  Easily.  EASILY.
