Fan Death

There is a common belief in South Korea that falling asleep in a closed room with an electric fan running can lead to death. Cases of suspected fan death are sometimes reported by the media, and new fans are equipped with automatic timers as a precaution. Though fan death is technically possible, as the use of a fan can hasten dehydration and thus lead to heat exhaustion, the more popular ideas about how fans might kill people have all been debunked by science.

Hmm, then I wonder why they bothered with the bill in the first place?  Who might it affect?  Seriously question.

What airports are you going to? I fly a semi-regularly and I’m pretty sure they see my ID once. Flying to China or something?

I don’t particularly mind the idea of simply having to possess an ID when you vote. That seems fine. I do worry about it potentially being used to leverage someone in a bad spot. Historically when the right to vote was denied, it was done using mundane sounding tools.

Not that I’m necessarily saying that is the case here. I am of a split mind about it. I think a lot of the criticism is overheated. But I also think it is being done with a not particularly good justification I would not doubt the potential for nefariousness.

Wisconsin actually had an interesting example of this nefarious approach. They passed a voter ID law a few years back, and it said that a student ID could count. That makes sense. But they installed a few random qualifications, namely that the ID had a signature and that it has to expire in a term of two years or less (both these things are silly). It disqualified a large number of IDs from University of Wisconsin Schools, including Madison. Alas, the devil is in the details when it comes to underhandedness.

In the end, we will just have to see how it plays out. (I also saw Cobb county pushed their economic impact bit, which are always comically overheated)

dont they issue student IDs to non citizens and out of state folks

not sure a student ID is good enough
