Russia wanted to swing its dick and now is trying to save face. And we can facilitate them having to bleed and very possibly eventually having to give up.

I think the US has an interest in stable borders, at least in Europe, and in preventing or reducing "adventurism".  I think Putin wants Ukraine to be "Belarus" in effect.

Putin obviously won't cede his territorial gains in any "peace deal", and Ukraine doesn't seem willing to cede them either.  So, both continue fighting it out on this line.

I'll Grant that isn't an original term with me.

Ukraine will run out of able bodied fighting men way before the Russians do. they don't have to give up- they can just out body count Ukraine.

this is actually pretty funny because it's 100% true. they laughed at Trump in his first term when he railed at them for being wholly dependent upon Russia for energy- and these morons have been spending more money fueling the Russian war machine by continuing to buy more oil & gas from Russia than they spend in aid to Ukraine.

which defensive weapons specifically, how much more money should we continue to spend, and for how much longer? just curious. if it was up to you. another 3 years? another $180 billion?

I didn't say we should be afraid of him.  I said he's a liar and no "peace" with him is real.

He's attacked and invaded Ukraine twice in the past 11 years.  He will continue trying as long as he's alive.  There is no peace with him.

Defensive weapons primarily involve anti-air stuff, and drones, and artillery (for counter battery).  With this sort of warfare, fortifications MIGHT be useful in spots.  All sorts of electronic countermeasures equipment.  Updated radars.  Intelligence (satellite and SIGINT).  All this would be less expensive than what we've been doing to date.
