Here's an example of taxpayer-funded silliness.
I currently work at a taxpayer-(partially)funded institution. I've had jobs before where the computers were locked down and you couldn't install your own software. I get that. Ours are locked down to where we can't even update programs when they require it (or if you don't have to update, but the update prompts are perpetual and annoying).
I work on the same floor as the IT guys, and they're crawling everywhere like ants. I don't wish anyone in particular ill will, but no telling how many tickets they get for software updates, and I think that our number of IT personnel wouldn't be required if people could simply click "Update Now" for themselves.
Meanwhile I sit here on the gub'ment dime, unable to do anything, because the 180,000 IT guys we have all forgot to install Adobe Reader on my laptop when it was issued. Like......can't you authorize us to install some things? And the sheer insanity of waiting for them again to come update something that's already installed......I'd rather not think about it.
