eat the school lunch - it was cheap
pack your own lunch - my Father packed his lunch for 36+ years
go hungry

I know there are too many kids in school that come from less than great home situations

There was a fair share back in my day.

Those kids had reduced prices for lunches and they ate everything on the plate.  They were hungry.

I'd like to see free lunches for families that qualify.

Healthy options like fruits and veggies do get eaten by underprivileged kids that are really hungry

We can do better for those kids

You can hate on him and disagree with nearly everything he says, but this is the broken reality about school lunches:

The key cost stuff is from 4:00-7:00.  $4.00 per meal includes wages, equipment, etc., so actual foot cost per meal is down to $1.25.  
M.Obama is at 9:00.

More cost stuff at 10:00.

Basically, when we set out to "fix" the school system and I suggested we start with something easy like school lunches, we on this board didn't even get very far before going off the rails.

The point is, we value our children at $1.25 per meal.  We could increase that, but guess who wouldn't agree to it.
