I like his sick burn yesterday about how Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris destroyed San Francisco, by talking about what a great city it was 15 years ago...

He's not wrong.

Their policies starting 20 years ago set the path. It takes a longer than 6/7 years to wreck a city.

It sounds to me like utee is talking more about the crazy world of "elite" travel baseball, not garden-variety little league like we all grew up with.

I see a similar thing with one of the doctors at my wife's practice, who has a son in travel basketball and a daughter in travel cheer competitions.

It's a goddamned racket. The crazy money that has to be spent to support this stuff is insane.

It long ceased being a good, fun, physically active, thing for kids to do. Now it's about separating parents from money as effectively as possible because you can't say no to something for your child.

Exactly.  And who do you think makes up these teams that are competing for the Little League World Series?  It ain't the rec league kids from the local YMCA.

ETA: And in some cases I know personally, it's not even the kid demanding it, it's the parents trying to live vicariously thought little Johnny because if they just spend $5,000 MORE on a private hitting coach and a private fielding coach and a private running coach, little Johnny is certain to be a big MLB star and their parenting will be validated.

Yes what ever happened to good old fashioned pick up games - I have a  City park behind my house - we use to play football/baseball there and the city still has the rec leagues of long ago playing there. However kids don't congregate on the week ends like they use to as there were no cell phones/internet/cable when I was growing up so we manufactured our own fun. But back to 94 and you also it's absolutely horseshit alot of folks simply can't allocate that kind of coin when it could all be done locally.No gas,lodging,restuarant expenses. Even to those who can why let them knowingly fleece you. Just strenghten the local product with upkeep of grounds/lots/walks - much better and easier

Oh and there was no travel league for throwing snow balls at cars then running like hell as young guys or cops circle back and give chase - should be an Olympic Event

Would have been smarter, then, to say that it was a great city 20 years ago, when they both came into office, not 5 years into their terms, and only 2 years before they both moved on to different offices. Instead he basically said that after he was mayor and she was DA for a full 5 years, it was a great city. 

Although what I find most funny about it is a "conservative" praising the San Francisco of 15 years ago. Pretty much my entire life I've never heard this nation's conservatives saying anything nice about SF. Well back into the 90s I've heard complaints that liberals were going to try to make the rest of the country like San Francisco, and that was NOT a compliment to SF at the time. 

I had no idea that version of little league existed.  so are you saying I could no longer register my son for little league or for what we used to call little league tryouts?

No, that little league still does exist. And it's still how you remember. 

The problem is if your kid is talented enough that he might be good enough for the "elite" travel leagues, then you as a parent have to either put your foot down and say "no", taking away an opportunity, or you need to pony up WAY more money than anyone should. IMHO because it's about your child having an opportunity, it's almost predatory.
