NFL Draft: Do Quarterbacks Bust More Than Other Positions? – WalterFootball

This is a bit old.

Quarterbacks:

There were 29 quarterbacks selected in the top 16 of the NFL Draft since 1993…

Hits: 13
Busts: 12
OK: 2
TBA: 2

Defensive Tackles:

There were 33 defensive tackles selected in the top 16 of the NFL Draft since 1993…

Hits: 15
Busts: 15
OK: 2
TBA: 1

Now, let’s look at the hit and bust rates for each position:

Quarterback Hit Rate: 48.2%
Defensive Tackle Hit Rate: 46.9%

Quarterback Bust Rate: 44.4%
Defensive Tackle Bust Rate: 46.9%

I find it very interesting that according to this data, quarterbacks have higher success rates and lower bust rates than defensive tackles, yet defensive tackle is generally perceived to be the safer route.

It’s a small sample size, but the disparity is even larger in the top five. In that area, only one defensive tackle has panned out of five opportunities, whereas five of 10 quarterbacks have been “hits,” and only four of 10 quarterbacks have been busts.

Considering how important the quarterback is in relation to the defensive tackle, if a team is deciding between the two positions, the “risk” factor should not sway them away from taking a signal-caller. In fact, it’s actually riskier to take a defensive tackle.

One more thing – I wanted to see how these two positions translated into winning and losing on the football field. I took all of the “hit” players listed in the two tables, and looked up how their initial franchise fared while they were on the roster:it Quarterback Original Team Record: 828-593 (.583)

Hit Quarterback Average Years on Original Team: 6.9
Hit Quarterback Average Playoff Years on Original Team: 3.8

Hit Defensive Tackle Original Team Record: 966-745 (.565)
Hit Defensive Tackle Average Years on Original Team: 6.4
Hit Defensive Tackle Average Playoff Years on Original Team: 3.1

Morale plummets inside The Washington Post as staffers express alarm over publisher’s attempts to squash story | CNN Business

I know most conservatives wouldn't line their bird house with WashPo (or the NYT), but in my view, historically, both are well written papers important in the country.  By "well written", I mean the writing style is usually better than what one commonly sees in say the Atlanta Journal/Constitution (as opposed to saying it means the articles are unbiased and well researched).

I'll read one or the other when traveling if provided by the hotel (which is not often).  The WSJ is well written in the main as well, in my opinion.  Its editorial slant is obviously more "right wing" than the above.

Anyway, it's a bit sad  that "we" view various news outlets in terms of whether we like what they report, or not.  Confirmation bias and all that.  This was even more the case back in the 19th century in the US.  Today it seems "we" are more interested in reading what we like reading rather than any analysis or news contrary to that.

Boeing’s Starliner is ready for human flight, but is it too late? (thehill.com)

Boeing seems to have done a K Mart.  I used to feel better boarding a Boeing 7x7, now, not so much.  Elon states what I saw in spades where I worked, and it wasn't pretty, at all.

Elon Musk, on X, was more succinct but brutal. “Although Boeing got $4.2 billion to develop an astronaut capsule and SpaceX only got $2.6 billion, SpaceX finished 4 years sooner. Note, the crew capsule design of Dragon 2 has almost nothing in common with Dragon 1. Too many non-technical managers at Boeing.

I’d lightly disagree.

People LOVE reading BS if it’s spicy and either buttresses or offends.

I tried to do a breakdown from 2011-2020 with QBs, OTs and edges, and I learned a couple things.
-There were some terrible QB years that drag that position down.
-It's a low-key nightmare to grade OTs. If you're a top-16 draft pick and an OT, you're gonna start basically every game and probably make a random pro bowl a shocking percentage go the time. And since OL is always a mess to fill, even so-so guys just start forever.
-Edge is interesting because you have some clear hit/bust types and then some interesting compiler vs bright star kind of guys. Like Robert Quinn was a stud early, then fell off, bounced around and had 1-2 random later big seasons.
