I find, usually, the "news of the day" is, well, not that important.  Whatever it was a year ago on this date wasn't important often as not, with obvious exceptions.

The media have to sell something of course.  And they breathlessly do that.

I can't name anyone in Congress I "like".  I could almost say that about politicians generally.

Many of these folks wouldn't be considered good workers in a civilian job.

I've met and liked several US Reps and two US Senators over time that I liked. But then they stay too long, fall in line, and I no longer like them.
