Newsom is currently facing a recall petition. Needs to get 1.5M signatures within the next month or so IIRC to force a special election.

Last time we recalled a governor we ended up with Ahhnold. Betcha this time if we recall him, we elect Kim Kardashian.

Newsom seems like the slimiest of slimeballs. Closes everything down for the regular folk in his entire state- but somehow it's completely A-OK for him to enjoy an indoor dining experience with 12 of his homies at a 3 star Michelin restaurant that costs about $400 a plate. Fkn dooosh.

He's getting recalled and almost certainly will be reelected.  I don't see the point really.

I'm not so sure the recall election will fail...

While this is a deeply blue state, there are a lot of pissed off people after the way the virus was handled. And he came off BADLY in that whole affair. Not only because it seemed like everything he did was decrees passed down from on high, but then when the French Laundry incident happened it hurt him badly.

You know that Republicans in California will vote lock-step to recall him. The question is whether there are enough Democrats who are so pissed off after lockdowns, after school closings, after his smarmy ass got caught violating his own lockdown, to peel off and vote to recall.

I don't think it's clear that he'll survive.

He's going to be recalled because many people are not stupid.

They see the lockdowns and the devastation of the economy for many, and then they look at Florida (among others) and see that keeping the economy open, while letting the people choose their behavior, produced just about the same results, without devastating the economy for most.

And Florida has a much older population.

When your state is the Borg and you control the mothership, you can pretty much do whatever you want without consequence.

Eh. The Borg can turn on their own... That's why I'm not sure that Newsom will survive this.

We may end up in a situation where the Borg simultaneously hates the Right and Newsom.

California’s Gavin Newsom Will Likely Face A Recall Election — But He’ll Probably Survive It | FiveThirtyEight

Odds are 1 in 5 he doesn't survive this, apparently, at this point, limited polling.

Yes indeed they can. But it is generally someone that breaks rank and attempts to reach across the isle.

So long as they are steadfast in their devotion to the cause, then they have carte blanche to pretty much do whatever.

His situation is the exact reason I never want to be in a leadership position with adults.  You try to do the right thing, you get spit on.  You go with the popular thing, things inevitably go awry, you get spit on.

Anytime a person in power tries to be responsible when the masses don't want to be, they get ass-canned.

If you compare California's COVID results with say Florida's, the comparison isn't really good for CA.

But, it takes very few signatures relatively to get a recall, and many more votes to have it work.
