All heat pumps work in the summer.

We have two "water sourced" heat pumps which seem very efficient.  They exchange heat into or out of building water.  The water exit cables get warm or cool depending on the season.

I had to replace one after we moved in, not really cheap things.

Went out to dinner tonight for oldest's 12th.  Really pleasant dining experience.  I expected C team performance, Sunday evening +plus SB.    My wife and I were thrilled with her non- chain Italian selection.

Certainly some confirmation bias but scanning the dining room, people who really don't care about the Super Bowl really don't look like they care about the Super Bowl.  I guess that includes us.

I watched the 3rd quarter.  I've probably seen about 1.5 of the last 4 SBs.
I wonder what causes our interest to wane with some sports and remain strong with others.  It hasn't been a conscious decision.

The wife and I were watching Law and Order reruns after dinner.  I mentioned to her the Super Bowl was on, I think.

That is as close as I got.  I lost interest in the NFL a long time ago.  I have narrowed my sports watching to CFB, MLB, and Australian Rules Football.

And curling, I forgot curling.

Neither of my own children have read it.

I'm always interested in the Superbowl when my favorite team is involved, and I'm always less interested when it's not.

No different than college football.  If my team were involved in the CFP, I'd be interested.  It has not been, and I've watched maybe 6 quarters-- TOTAL-- of all the CFP games, since the CFP began.

My "interest" in non-Purdue sports is obviously much more casual. I'll turn on other CFB/NCAABB games, NFL games, or golf, but unless it's a matchup I'm interested in it's usually relegated to "it's on the TV but I'm barely paying attention" status.

I've found that the older I get, the more I realize that by reducing the number of things I care about, it makes my life a lot more pleasant.

I used to spend all Saturday watching college football. I'd root for Purdue and against IU/ND. I'd often have a team in other games that I'd prefer to win, and although I didn't really "care" to any large degree, I'd still get disappointed if they lost.

I don't have time for all that nonsense any more. And it didn't even really improve my life. While a Purdue win makes me genuinely happy, an IU loss or ND loss I didn't actually care about, but an IU win or ND win disappointed me.

It's all about reducing desire to live a more even life... That's a zen thing, right?

The only good thing about last nights game was TB winning

The commercials were a dud

The half time show was the worst one yet

hell, if it wasn't for "caring" about meaningless stuff like sports on TV and my own crappy golf game, I'd have very little to "care" about and give my life any meaning.

Your kids are pretty much grown, it makes a difference.

There was a point, up until as recently a 4 years ago, when I hadn't missed a UT home football game since 1988.  So something like 27 or 28 years I guess.

But now, not only have I missed attending most home games over the past 4 years,  but I'm even missing them live on TV, due to other commitments for my kids like soccer games, football games, scouting campouts, etc.

And I'm perfectly happy about that.

I love watching my kids play sports and getting to go on scouting campouts and stuff with them.  This bit isn't going to last forever.  My 13yo daughter is already starting to shift into wanting to do her own thing with her friends, which is fine and natural.  But it just makes me hold on to the moments she's willing to spend with me, even more.

We've taken them to football games for both UT and TAMU, and they enjoy those too.  But we can't make every game anymore, just too much other stuff going on.

If I watch say Boston College playing Virginia, I don't care who wins, I try and look at the MLB or another player to see how they react.  I'm still puzzled by how they read the offensive alignments, often, to me, the offensive presnap looks the same as nearly every other play.

It's clear the D reacts to a player who motions.  I infer the QB can read that reaction and figure what sort of defense they are in, etc.
