The U.S. Marine Corps says the development of a new family of relatively low-cost, long-range air-launched loitering munitions, or kamikaze drones, is "critical" to its new expeditionary and distributed concepts of operations. These future Long-Range Attack Munitions, or LRAMs, would be capable of operating in fully-networks swarms and reaching target areas more than a hundred miles away after launch from Marine Corps F-35B Joint Strike Fighters, MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotors, various types of helicopters, or even KC-130J Hercules tanker/transport planes.

The Marine Corps provided new details about the LRAM effort at a media roundtable last Friday. The kinds of drones would offer Marines a valuable additional means of striking enemy forces and just locating and tracking threats, all at extended ranges. Depending on their exact configuration, they could perform other tasks, including electronic warfare jamming. Being able to operate in a swarm presents its own advantages, including when it comes to overwhelming enemy air defenses.

The press briefing that touched on LRAM came ahead of today's release of the latest public update on the service's progress in refining and implementing its new, over-arching force restructuring and modernization plans, known collectively as Force Design 2030. Force Design 2030 is heavily focused on ensuring the Marine Corps has the necessary force structure and assets to succeed in what it calls Expeditionary Advance Base Operations (EABO), as well as in support of other joint service distributed concepts of operations.

So in the middle east, would it be a........desert swarm??

My wife has been wanting an electric fireplace.  I don't like'em.  I held off, but our tenth anniversary is coming up, so I ordered one she picked out.  OK fine, whatever.  Turns out "some assembly" required is not the full story.  I'm waiting on our electrician to come and hopefully install it, an electrical outlet has to be moved.  It's heavy, I can lift it but I certainly can't hold it up against the wall to secure it.

She usually gets what she wants, I hope she doesn't turn on the heat in summer.

I had been loading youtube videos of fireplaces on a loop when we have dinner, but that wasn't working.

Get a French trophy wife and be prepared to pay some bucks for things.

Exactly. If you don't like "the media", turn it off.

Another approach, and this is not easy these days, is to focus on what unites us, rather than focus on what divides us.

The dividers get too far much attention, and they are few. For some reason they get the megaphone.

Teaching what to your children?

Anything to do with sexual orientation prior to grade 9. Let kids be kids.

History, writing, reading, math, science. That is school.

Instead, we have kids who are ultra-stressed out and confused. Combine that with lockdowns and many kids are screwed right now.

I fear that "we" have destroyed much of a generation.

I think you might be conflating gender and sexual orientation. And in truth, we've always taught both from a very young age. (I can agree there's little value in teaching the more loopy stuff, but some of the more normalized stuff is what it is).

Alas, history is a wonky one too.

History is fine, so long as it's not re-written. Then it becomes fiction.

I recall having a "sex-ed" segment of a social studies course in 8th grade. It was mostly birds and bees stuff - innocent, if you will. It also stressed abstaining.

(Yes, public school.)

This Disorder was not taught in schools.  It is now- and often to elementary school children, over the strong objection of their parents.   Either you agree with this policy- parents don’t know best- or you don’t.   Polling shows a significant majority of parents don’t- but it’s being done anyway.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.
