The 11-year-old boy shot in the chest by Mississippi police after calling 911 says he prayed and sang to stay alive. Now he wants the officer fired | CNN

Sad story indeed.  CNN doesn't mention that Capers is African American.

Who is Greg Capers, the Mississippi police officer who shot unarmed 11-year-old Aderrien Murry? (yahoo.com)
they also never mention (not just them but pretty much all media) that vast majority violent gun crimes in US are black people shooting other black people...and black people are 10x more likely to be shot and killed than white people- yet they make up maybe 12% of the population.

fix the inner cities and school systems and I don't know...try to do something to tackle the abject poverty in the inner cities....and the gun violence will probably go down.

Hollywood Beach shooting suspects remain at large; 2 others in custody on firearm charges: police | Fox News
very sad story. Hollywood, FL is a freaking gutter pit of trash bags. Which is crazy because it's pretty close to Golden Beach, Aventura, and Sunny Isles which are all really nice wealthy areas.

I despise that terminology.

If we're gonna use it, then we also have pressure cooker violence, hammer violence (Paul Pelosi), SUV violence, knife violence, baseball bat violence, and on and on.

Killers gonna try to kill.

It's not gun violence. It's just plain violence.

Or, in most cases, GANG violence.

FBI is refusing to hand over unclassified documents to the House Oversight Committee. Lol.

This entire unelected federal bureaucracy has run amuck and must be dismantled imo. I'm 100% on board with JFK's (RIP) whole "splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds" - but don't stop there- throw in the FBI, CDC, FDA, IRS, DHS....all of it.

Lol. Them anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorists at the Cleveland Clinic!

Welp, turns out the more boosters you got, the more likely you were to get COVID. So basically exactly what one of the pioneers of mRNA vaccines, Dr. Robert Malone- was censored and kicked off the internet for saying at the beginning of this craziness.

Interesting.  I think you should cross-post that in the COVID thread, since it serves as a bit of a running archive for all things pandemic related.

The opposite is happening, and it's spreading.
"School choice" is going to make public schools worse and eventually kill them off.  The wealthy and the proactive will leave the deplorables behind.
Those inner city kids in abject poverty will be concentrated in public schools.
Republicans will point to their failure and say "see, we told you so," after having taken actions to ensure this to come to pass.
.
So cancel that idea.

@OrangeAfroMan I moved this to here from the weather thread.

Cool.
You want to pay for me to move my ass back to FL?
You don't need my money. Florida will pay for it if you qualify.

By the way, FL has school choice. The biggest hurdle to that is a bus driver shortage.

Uhh, what's to stop those "deplorables" from actually going to the better schools, if it's a true voucher model where the money follows the student?

Oh, and I'm not sure if you've noticed it, but those inner city schools where there ISN'T school choice aren't models of success. And you really can't blame the Republicans, because they're pretty much not in charge of any big cities.

Not likely the problem that you might think... The issue is thinking in static terms (as OAM tends to do). The assumption is that the existing public schools will just stay there and fail.

The idea of school choice is that the existing public schools will be forced to adapt and improve, or they'll have low enrollment and fail. If they improve, they'll have enough students to survive. If they fail, it would be likely that they get taken over by private owners who can better compete. Either way, they won't be the same failed public schools that exist there today.

If there are kids clustered in an area, there is demand. If there is demand, schools will be sited where they can meet demand.

I hope it helps

I fear it won't

the problem isn't with the schools, or the teachers, or the kids.

the problem is with the parents
