I don't look for "opportunities" with few exceptions.  I look for balance.......

I wouldn't buy a single stock with a portfolio under $100 K, even half a mil you can do fine with ETFs.
Guess ETFs aren't for me,you are very shrewd/prudent/dialed in regarding this.I wouldn't be comfortable moving large sums(to me) electronically a couple of times a month.A man's got to know his limitations

I personally view ETFs as enormously useful investment tools.  They are cost efficient and provide for diversification without having multiple individual stocks.

I do spend a fair bit of time in a day looking at investments, I enjoy it.

I think the key is to start early in life and save money in an IRA/401K/Roth for later.  And stay out of bad debt.

Thank You OBE WAN,problem is(with me at least based on unfamiliarity)  how to recognize those opportunities before 99% of the investors play me like a cheap violin.

I use a service called VectorVest to help spot opportunities

Its not cheap but has paid for itself many times over

You've got a gift - I find it imposing/intimidating

I don't view it as any kind of gift.  As I noted, for three years after retirement I used a fiduciary money manager.

I asked a LOT of questions.  It was useful for me learning what they were doing, and why, it's not rocket science.

I could have left it with them, it's my retirement fund, and done OK I'm sure.  But then I'd be so bored I'd probably have to write books and post all day on  some internet site.

Some of the neater things about Vectorvest is its stock screening ability and the ability to use a stock screening formula in a look back to see what the results would have been had you invested this way in the past

Dry your eyes pumpkin maybe if some one was taught common sense at a tender age they'd realize most of the time good performance is tied to advancement. You do understand that you don't go to work for minimum wage one week and land on the Board of Directors of Amazon/Walmart the next?I worked at a GM Cleveland plant right out of H.S.,some segments thought that if they worked hard for a couple of months they were management material.Rather than reason what skills they needed to develop to get there
Nothing you say here has anything to do with my post.  Odd.

sitting in on a Fidelity Investments Web Workshop currently

the first 15 minutes have been a waste, much too basic and for beginners

This is why I loathe training videos and courses.  I can read, let me read, then I can skip to the good parts.

I just finished proof reading Book Two, that is a real chore.
