Our area locally is making a concerted effort to build "parklets" where land exists, small less than half acre green or use spaces.  This seems to be working pretty well, it spots "green" in an urban environment for relatively little cost.  There are even notions of building over the main freeway, though the cost of that is exorbitant, and I don't think it can happen, but they did widen one bridge to build a green space which is better than just a bridge.

Finally saw Top Gun Maverick over the weekend. I enjoyed the movie a lot, even if they went just a tad hard on nostalgia and the plot was really goofy and non-sensical.

It really seems like a lot of movies just have lazy and un-inventive writers. Maybe it’s always been that way.

I can barely watch the new Star Wars movies for this reason. Just terrible writing, and plots so dumb it’s hard to follow.

I think a lot of movies have always been this way, we just kind of forget about a lot of the old ones.

HOWEVER, I also think blockbusters are becoming more monolithic, so when they're terribly written, it stands out more.

They mostly stick to what's worked in the past in a safe way to make money.
When they go off-script or try to get inventive, it's a good chance it doesn't work - on some scale of too convoluted vs stupid consumers unable to follow anything other than what's worked before.
