Heard this report on the radio the other day - "Average Age of Cars on Road Hits New High"

According to Kelley Blue Book: "The average sedan or coupe, the report found, is 13.1 years old. The average truck or SUV is 11.6 years old.

“This is the fifth straight year the average vehicle age in the U.S. has risen. This year’s average age marks another all-time high for the average age even as the vehicle fleet recovered, growing by 3.5 million units in the past year,” the report says.

That’s due, in part, to Americans renewing lapsed registrations on vehicles they had stopped driving during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic."

For the sake of family finances and resourcefulness, it's refreshing if consumers are hoping to maximize the life of their vehicles, even if it's a symptoms of rising costs. Drivers where I live are notorious for breaking bank for the status symbols of a Lexus, Audis, Mercedes, and Porsches.

I don't view my car as a status symbol. I just like nice things, reliable things, and safe things. Mercedes-Benz checks those boxes.

Mine is 8 years old now. Hopefully it will be 30 when they take away my license to drive it.

Nearly all cars today are quite reliable.  Change the oil and you're good.

I lost a car to a weird situation/engine thing, and I replaced it with something reliable, safe and more “fine” than “nice.”

I also realized my dad’s decades old car, which we thought would just expire, might live long enough that we’ll have to take his keys first.

My 2012 Ford Fusion is hitting that point where it's still reliable, but at 180,000 miles, it's getting to the point where every time I need any work done I question it.

Also, in a post-COVID world where I only go into the office two days a week, it brings up the interesting buy vs. lease debate.  A generation ago, with those limited miles, it's a no brainer lease.  Now knowing you should be able to get a decade out of a car, it's a tougher question

My Volvo started acting up to much at 450K miles, and that's when I got the M-B.

Still got $4K for that old Volvo though.
