half of President Biden's Twitter followers are fake....Twitter and it's CEO are totally telling the truth and not flat out committing fraud about being "well under 5% bots/spam"....LOL.

You're right. I shouldn't have said that. I let someone who wanted to deepen the divisions in our country get the better of me. (Also, that someone was admittedly trolling for a response)

“My visceral insulting everyone who disagrees with me is not divisive in any way.”

Lord have mercy we are screwed.
we've been screwed. I blame the Democrats and this new form of "liberal" which isn't really liberal at all- and more like a Bush-Cheney creature. Which kinda makes sense when you see how many Bush-Cheney scumbags have infiltrated the Democratic party.

People are more tribal than ever before. I don't think that'll change until we can break up the duopoly and have multiple parties. Til then- it's all gonna be groupthink and you'll have your vote blue no matter who shitlibs and your bible thumping jesus freak republicans.

If you do it in a profanity-laden, spittle-flying way, yep, pretty much.

Just about no one feels like coming together as a nation because someone dog cussed them for fun. Fixing divisions is going to take someone saying "That was a terrible thing to say, but I'll work to respond calmly." And it's understandable people don't want to do that and are content widening divisions.
Nah. The ones who are widening divisions of this country are the ones who continually peddle evidence free conspiracy theories like Russiagate, openly want to start WWIII with the country that has the largest stockpile of nukes in the world, wants to blindly dump weapons and flood money with no oversight or accountability into Ukraine, wants to censor the internet and free speech, and thinks everyone has to think and act exactly like them or they are deplorable or racist or nazis- which is totally not weird at all considering same people are cozying up to literal nazis in Ukraine. So- to recap- basically only most of the mainstream media and the establishment wing of the Democratic party.

We're totally not screwed.

I consider myself a free-thinker.

My top priorities include the economy, the environment and quality education. Those who stand for the same are the ones who get my votes. It's really simple like that, and for me it's easy to keep it that way.

Again, we absolutely 175% agree about the middle portion. So we don't need to go over that part.

Now, I've not said I'm 100% sure the first amendment doesn't apply here, but I think it's a gray area, at least until the courts clarify it. We also know, and I think can agree, that there are some things students are not allowed to say in levels of K-12 settings. For example, you can't cuss out a teacher nor loudly say something lewd about a classmate, or slinging around racial slurs without the risk of some kind of consequence (but all these things are first amendment protected in the vast majority of situations). Teachers are allowed to levy some punishment for what's deemed disruptive behavior.

Again, we agree to the hilt that this consequence it wholly gross and terrible, and the people levying it should be shamed. But I'm not sure, at least at this point, if whatever is alleged could possibly fall under the disruptive category. (And to take it to another level of agreement, if the parents' story is true, the school should also be able to level some type of discipline on the person with the pronouns for flipping shit at some kid. )

Edit: There could be a compelled speech argument, the same principle why you can’t make kids say the pledge of allegiance. That was again cast as a political matter, but perhaps this will be too.
Very nice summation.

What people seem to forget is that the first amendment protects a persons right to express themselves, but it does not protect against the consequences of said speech if it harms or causes harm to come to another person.

The question here is did the use of a pronoun cause the "victim" (for lack of a better term) harm? Also, can a person compell another to use words of their choosing that may not be truthful? Also, did the speech of the accused cause a disruption in the school?

If the facts of this particular case as reported are correct, I would have to say that using factually correct pronouns does not cause harm to the person the pronouns are directed to. That person does not have the right to compell others which speech they can or cannot use. And if there was a disruption in the school, it most likely came from the person that was offended by a truthful pronoun being used to refer to them.

Border for sure.

Crime kinda gets taken care of with education and economy. The root cause of most violent crime is not having an education or a job.

yup. people wonder why South side of Chicago or most of Detroit is a war zone. Entire industries up and left and with it untold amounts of jobs and tax base, and people fled. Public education and entire areas just fall into despair because of the loss of industry and tax base.

If you want to help poor black people in these inner cities and cut down on crime- nothing would help them more than free college or technical training programs, healthcare, and a living wage. Biden comes in and does not even try his hand to fight for even one of these things, but makes Juneteenth a national holiday. It's all signals. No substance. If it was 1860 the Democrats would be bragging about being the party of the first trans gender slave owner.
