We're not doing anything but shuffling deck chairs on climate change because there is not practicable solution, just as we'd have no solution to a comet 9 lm across about to impact the planet.

I think the looks into the problem and potential solutions done by Bjorn Lomborg and his associates are pretty well reasoned, an actionable.  As much as can be, I mean, for something that's still not fully understood as far as human impact and viable solutions.  I think he and the economists that work with him have done as good a job as I'm aware of as far as sussing out what's actually going on and seeking to mitigate unintended (or maybe intended?) consequences of the pop-level "fixes."  He has a book called False Alarm I have on my list, but haven't read yet.  Also read a helpful book called Weathering Climate Change that summarized where we are and some potential moves going forward nicely, I thought.

Haven't seen it, but I did read a number of reviews on IMDB.  I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.  Not at the attempts to review a movie.  At the people fellating the movie and screaming about the real-life idiots it portrays....and their very bad grammar whilst doing so.
Yup, the shrill response from the usual suspects is completely predictable.  The movie is basically custom-crafted specifically to feed their biases and self-sustaining echo chamber.  That's what I meant when I said it was clunky and heavy-handed.  It's rare to find anything resembling subtlety or nuance coming from the Hollywood set.  You could think of it as an extended SNL sketch from the Alec Baldwin-as-Trump era.

Even so, there were a lot of funny bits.  And I found it worked much better as an analogue for the pandemic response, than it ever could have as a commentary on climate change.

I was an invited speaker at a wine conference near Paris a few years back, the first speaker talked about the impact of CC on theh wine industry.  It was in French, but the upshot was "dire and soon".  Wine grapes require specific terroir to make very good wine, and you can't move most wine regions a bit north to get a cooler climate because the soil changes, or it's a river or mountain or whatever.  (Napa is cooler in the south anyway).  So, CC SHOULD harm the wine industry "soon", but hasn't.  Yet.

It's a canary in the mine of coal in effect.  Part of this is the changes in T reported to date are actually pretty modest, well within normal variation year over year, and growers can manage, but IF we double that, I think many would be in trouble.  But I also think they would be 50 years from now, not 2030.

The T change is so slow we wouldn't notice it vicariously without instrumentation.
according to 60 minutes this is a HUGE problem for France today

It'd probably make me roll my eyes either way.

The pandemic response has also never been as simple as The Two Main Sides have made it out to be.  Like most things in life, it's a bit more nuanced and complex than anybody would like to give it credit for.  I'd surely be more guilty of this than I probably already am were I not working for the county health authority and my wife being a medical provider.  They frequently have to remind me that actually bio-chemistry, population health, and individual health and well-being are pretty complicated subjects.  I'm inclined to remind them public policy is also not as clear cut as people would like it to be.

My stepson watched it and said he thought it was pretty funny.

Amazingly, they don't respect my Google degree at all.

It's like they think year's worth of medical school and practice and coordinating carefully with the CDC means they know more than I, an internet master with the world at my fingertips and hot takes ready to regurgitate.

"Being altered" is not the same as "has been altered" to any significant degree.  It's a danger for the future, not today, that I've seen.

Wine making is always impacted by weather, which is one reason California is so predictable with relatively few bad years.

I have not seen his plan, and suspect it isn't practicable, particularly if it contains "nuclear" anywhere in it.

According to a U-Haul study, South Dakota is No. 11 "Growth State" in 2021, moving up 14 spots from its 2020 report. One-way U-Haul trucks to South Dakota increased by nearly 28% from last year.

Growth states are calculated by the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a state verses leaving that state in a calendar year.

Top 10 states people moved to, according to United Van Lines:

Vermont
South Dakota
South Carolina
West Virginia
Florida
Alabama
Tennessee
Oregon
Idaho
Rhode Island

Top 10 metro areas people moved to, according to United Van Lines:

Medford-Ashland, Oregon
Punta Gorda, Florida
Wilmington, North Carolina
Eugene-Springfield, Oregon
Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
For Myers-Cape Coral, Florida
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Why not just measure actual population growth by standard metrics instead of using a "commercial ploy"?

No WAY.

On a serious note, another friend just moved down. He wanted to do a one-way U-Haul from the Chicago area.

$2400.00 one-way. For the round trip, it was $750. So, he did the round trip and picked us his car while up there.

Sounds like U-Haul will pay people to move trucks from Florida to Illinois. Certainly nobody is moving to Illinois from Florida, so that makes sense.
U RAH RAH! WIS CON SIN!

They are coming in from the expected places apparently.  Mass. has a land area of 10,565 sqmiles and a population of about 6.9 million folks, so this place is comparable.

Population growth has slowed since 2008, but the city is growing.

The bolded part negates any weight of the non-bolded part.

But what I've seen of him is maybe less an actionable plan, and more a sensible approach to getting an actionable plan.  He advocates for honest assessments of all data and for serious cost-benefit analyses to be done for suggested courses of action.  And to not ignore the cost-benefit analyses that have already been done.  The data, by the way, which as far as I can, nobody disputes.  There seems to be massive disagreements on how much to tank the economy and other sectors for minimal impacts on a problem that isn't nearly as bad as the alarm-peddlers yell.
