  • INDIANA (2) - even though it doesn't really impact anything, you don't just poo poo Big 10 title chances in Bloomington
If Ohio State had won say two of the last three B1G titles, I would absolutely pick IU in this game based solely on motivation.  The fact that Ohio State hasn't won a B1G title since the game was played in an empty stadium due to the Pandemic makes that less of a factor.  Still, Indiana's last league title was almost 60 years ago, in 1967 so I do think there is a bit of a motivation edge here for the Hoosiers.

Indiana was part of the first wave of conference expansion, joining what would become the B1G for the 1900 football season.  Thus, 2025 is their 126th season of B1G football and in the previous 125 they won exactly 2 league titles.  They won their ONLY outright title in 1945 and I don't know the details but I would guess it was probably largely due to issues that the powerhouse programs had in transitioning from wartime to peacetime because the Germans surrendered just a few months before the 1945 season and the Japanese surrendered during the 1945 football season.

Their second and most recent title came in 1967 in a three-way tie with the Gophers and Boilermakers.  That was 58 years ago.  So yeah, you don't just poo poo B1G title chances in Bloomington.

Curt Cignetti is 64 years old.  He was 6 the last time Indiana won a league title in football.

Cignetti probably has a nice bonus in his contract that will pay him VERY well for a Big Ten title
