1983 result:  Nebraska
1984 result:  tie - Washington/Nebraska - we'll figure that out later

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1985 Playoff teams:
#1 Penn State - independent
Only undefeated team going into the postseason.  Defeated 2 ranked teams, with close, two-point wins in both games.  Defense gave up over 20 points just once.  Poor passing game, with a committee at RB.  Strong K/P pair.  Basically nothing radical about this team, they just had a talent of not losing.

#2 Miami - independent
Lost first game of season, then won 10 straight.  Lost to #5 Florida, but won on road @ #3 OU and #10 FSU.  Allowed 20+ points 3x, so not among the best Miami defenses.  Mediocre running game offset by elite passing game w/ QB Testaverde.  Wasn't ranked until mid-October.

#3 Oklahoma - Big 8 Champions
Only loss was to Miami - was also the only game OU allowed over 14 points all year.  Defense gave up one score or less in 8 games.  Beat ranked Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma St.  Preseason #1 team.  Strong option offense.  TE Keith Jackson leading receiver, averaged over 25 yards per catch.

#4 Iowa - Big 10 Champions
Only loss @ #8 Ohio St.  Spent all of October at #1.  Big passing offense, led by Heisman runner-up Long at QB.  Outlasted #2 Michigan at home.  OSU and UM are the only ranked teams the Hawkeyes played.  RB Harmon a threat running and catching the ball.

Notable players involved:
O'Brien Award winner - QB Long, Iowa
Butkus Award winner - LB Bosworth, OU
Maxwell Award winner - Long
Lombardi Award winner - DT Casillas, OU
All-Americans:
QB Long, Iowa
TE Willie Smith, Miami
DT Casillas, OU
LB Bosworth, OU
LB Larry Station, Iowa

Semifinals:
Penn State vs Iowa
Miami vs Oklahoma (rematch)

Oklahoma over Iowa.

PSU was a product of their schedule.  Michigan was probably the best team.

Given the rumor, my guess is he still fumbles.

I say if Ronnie Harmon were benched before the playoff, Iowa would win. Too many what ifs to speculate.

The only way to stop a guy on the take.  At least according to my Hawkeye hunting buddy.

I tend to believe it. His agent was connected to the Colombo crime family.

I suppose I could change my opinion after all these years if Certain things have come to light, and uh, ya know
