And for the record- I don't want to make it out like I think JJ is the savior of Michigan football. I don't. I just think how the coaches are handling the kid is god awful. If you're going to burn his shirt and play him every single game- at least give him a few series or a QTR to really play and get into the zone.
And the other previous "savior" Michigan QB's like TaterTot, Denard, Devin Gardner, or Shane Morris never flashed quite like JJ did. TaterTot didn't have the elite arm talent like JJ is showing. Denard was a glorified RB who really could not throw the football. Devin Gardner was actually pretty talented but inaccurate- and he also lost a year and a half of QB development by switching to WR. For what it's worth- think you could make a great case DG's college coaches wrecked what potential he had. And then Shane Morris just sucked at football- every time he got playing time or snaps he was just bad- he was the original Graham Mertz.
JJ is getting snaps and really flashing. He is showing you everything you want to see in a QB. He's got a big arm but more importantly he's accurate. He throws the deep ball with great touch and timing. He's not Michael Vick- but he really can run a little bit and pick up yards with his feet. His release is effortless and super quick- and he can evade the rush and escape the pocket and throw on the run accurately across his body- maybe the hardest thing there is for a QB to do. Every time he is getting in the game he is showing some seriously high level traits. Like I have not been this excited for a Michigan QB in a long long long long long time. He needs more playing time, period.
