Its actually my step daughter... National guard.  Her choice and you could have floored me... She said (after being accepted in a really expensive college) "I want to pay for it myself"... Makes me think we did something right.
Well my mistake don't tell her I don't feel like having my crusty old self being woodshedded by a girl.Oh and you're on the NC coast well - Run Drew Run

depends were Badge lands.
I could always go to the Keys after a few years in Austin
That'd be like Jerry Jeff Walker, but in reverse.

Until scientists can explain why climate change is occurring now differently than it has occurred since a climate existed, I am skeptical. I doubt that the ice age ended due to cave men driving SUV's.
The phrases you use make it seem like you're not at all wanting to be informed of the reality of this.  You're ignoring the 97%+ of climate scientists because you want to.  That's all you have to say.

my neighbor just texted the transformers blew sending quite the light show into the dark, and the winds are now sustaining in the low nineties.

glad i ain't there, but not real happy i gotta go back Sunday.  Wife thinks she's gonna fly in next Sunday, and she'd be wrong.  the airports will be closed except for emergency traffic, and because of the federal dollars to be had.  what a world we live in...

oh.. a guy i work with just texted and said water is from the ocean to the sound across the eastern section of emerald isle- which is a  barrier island and southern most outer bank.. it runs dead east and west with ocean facing south.  i don't think anyone expected that.  it's a little rougher out there right now than they anticipated this early in the event.  storm center is still a good ways out.  that eye wall is gonna be nasty.

I was in the eye of a hurricane when I was a kid in FL.  I lived well inland, so it was probably just a tropic storm by then, but it was super-weird.  About 30 min of clear, blue sky - I went out side and played for a bit.

Then the other half hits hardcore.

i stood in Atlantic Beach on the other side of the island the town of emerald isle is in, and did same @OrangeAfroMan , beer in hand and giggling... somewhere in the mid nineties... i had a picture of the eye wall all around us- absolutely gorgeous skies and seemingly nothing wrong- except literally all around us on the horizon was bruised and nasty.  surreal experience.... and before i had people i was responsible for.  if not for that i'd be like lieutenant dan from forrest gump right now- shaking my fist and screaming "is this all you got?"... but age and you know, maturity, kinda changes that.

The calls for rescue are coming in. 150+ people have now realized they made a mistake by staying.
The one I'm most annoyed with is a single mom of a 0,3, 8 kids chose to stay cause she didn't have enough money to leave.

She doesn't sound like the best decision-maker on the planet.

Glad you're safe Drew. Best of luck on the return. Hopefully that kitchen is still there.

Everyone has a story on why they stayed.  My issue is this will become the governments problem to solve... either now, during the storm or after.  People will be critical of the response because others chose to stay despite the warnings.   IMO, it's not on the gov't.  It's on the individual.   AT SOME POINT, personal accountability counts.
that doesn't mean I want to see young kids die... but culturally, we do expect others to solve problems because we failed to act...

That situation sounds heartbreaking. Like I get that its easy to blame her, but imagine being in a position where you either felt you didn't have enough money to leave or in fact didn't have enough money to leave.

That seems like a thing that could happen, and it would just be awful.

Yeah, I'm a little confused.  The people who could, and don't, I have no sympathy for.  She's someone I have all the sympathy in the world for.
