WTF is a "neighborhood BBQ?"  How do you fit an entire neighborhood inside your smoker?

Maybe it's an opium den

cool

Today the folks on Jupiter are looking down on earth with their version of our Hubbell telescope, and discussing amongst themselves the "Great White Spot" on earth, and speculating, "What in Jupiter is that white spot?" Then in a few days it disappears. They are saying "It can't be a storm, they last thousands of years and are red."

I found it interesting the base camp commander of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina which is on the coast between Wilmington, NC and Moorehead City, NC decided to not evacuate troops. He may be right that the buildings are sturdy enough. I suppose if a big old live oak falls on a residence then he may be wrong. He ought to have the flood maps, and be able to rationally determine if people are in harms way. Interesting decision.

If he is wrong he would likely be court martialed, wouldn't he?

In social media, he’s claiming all the credit, which I suppose is his job, but might not be great if he has to explain later.
I wonder if those soldiers will be part of doing something to help?

Climate change is a hoax, guys.  These cancellations due to radical weather increasing in recent years is just a blip.  I swear.
"there is a small nominally positive upward trend in tropical storm occurrence from 1878-2006. But statistical tests reveal that this trend is so small, relative to the variability in the series, that it is not significantly distinguishable from zero (Figure 2). Thus the historical tropical storm count record does not provide compelling evidence for a greenhouse warming induced long-term increase."

I'm not gonna claim increased green house gases hasn't caused an increase in temperature, nor will I claim that weather has more variability than previously seen. We have data that backs that up.

What I am gonna claim is that we live in a generation where everything has to the best or the worst in order to get people to click on it. And that makes it a lot harder to find the actual truth.

What I think the research shows is that ~1960-2000 America actually had substantially less hurricane strikes than has been recorded over the last 140 years. And as the article suggests the amount of hurricanes we have is a return to normalization. Couple that with our pandering media and this is the end of the world type catastrophe.

I saw a segment news peeps were on some barrier islands off the Carolina Coast. The locals had some gauge there marking the water levels left from different Hurricanes. There was a storm from 1956 I believe that left a lot more water than anything in the last 20-30 years. There's more damage now because there is literally 5X as many folks residing there as back in the day

I'm familiar with the noises made by large ice.  I bit eerie, but nothing I can't sleep through.

This isn't an opposing view.  It doesn't negate the current truth.
Until scientists can explain why climate change is occurring now differently than it has occurred since a climate existed, I am skeptical. I doubt that the ice age ended due to cave men driving SUV's.

this...   improvements in technology and gov't assistance to rebuild have drastically changed how people view living along the coast compared to 100 yrs ago.
