In San Diego with entire family sans kid in Austin.  Planning big to do.  Bought two cases of wine at Costco and two bottles of Veuve to celebrate step son becoming a 'Mericun.  Official like.  He is a fine fellow indeed.

Airport here was total Charlie Foxtrot and I am slated to pick up more kids and then take them back later.  Youngest kid is now 34, yikes, except grandkids.

My favorite Holiday, I hope your team wins and your turkey is not dry.  Hotel manager here graduated from GaTech, I did not say anything.

MCRD is next to the airport, some kids over there might get a special meal.

In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and members of the Wampanoag tribe celebrated what is considered the first Thanksgiving celebration in the New World. The menu likely included venison, lobster, seals, and swans. Not on the menu—mashed potatoes, because they hadn’t come to the colonies from South America by that time, and pumpkin pie, because the colonists had used up all their sugar provisions.

In 1863, during the height of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln designated a “Day of Thanksgiving” as a national holiday on the fourth Thursday of November. By that time, potatoes and sugar, though rationed, would have placed mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie on some menus.

The first Thanksgiving in Plymouth was a three-day festival. Now we have four full days of football, with Black Friday thrown in as an homage to all the bargain hunters among us. Thanksgiving has come a long way since 1621, but it’s a great family celebration for everyone (except for turkeys)!

Fun Potato History Fact

Did you know- In October 1995, the potato became the first vegetable to be grown in space. NASA and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, created the technology with the goal of feeding astronauts on long space voyages, and eventually, feeding future space colonies.

My great (a lot more greats) Grandfather Giles Hopkins and his father Stephen Hopkins were there!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Every day is Thanksgiving.
What a healthy attitude.

Or unhealthy if you’re referring to diet.

Stopping by to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!

My parents are getting on in years, both are now 80+, and although they're still in reasonably good health (which I am very thankful for), my siblings and I decided several years back, that they didn't need the pressure and stress of hosting Thanksgiving anymore, so we now alternate it among our houses.

This year is my year to host and I'm excited about it, it'll be our 3rd time to do so, and I love having the whole family over-- my kids do, too.  We'll have 12 adults and 8 kids ranging from 1 year to 15 years.  I'm smoking a turkey, my dad is frying one, my mom is making two huge batches of her cornbread dressing, and then we'll have all the other usual stuff like sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, homemade yeast rolls, and pumpkin and pecan pies with homemade whipped cream for dessert.  Probably won't be able to move for the rest of the weekend and that's okay.

Anyway, wishing a great Tday to all of you and yours!
