Because he probably should have been national assistant of the year last year.  When has a Mike Leach team had a too 25 defense?

So if Pitt beats VT, they can lose to either Wake or Miami and win the division. Pitt has expectations now (hold me). In the UVA game Narduzzi went for it on 4th and inches on his own 10 late in the half (actually the right call) and sent out Kessman to kick a 53 yarder in slop up by 7 late in the the fourth. Of course Kessman buried it becuase it was a 53 yarder and not a 35 yarder. Nothing ever makes sense with Pitt.  This is probably the way things should be.

Went for it on 4th and inches from his own 10?  Wow. Stones.  I was having dinner with my wife and was caught some of that game.  The field was a complete mess.

I wanted to check in on that, then the answer is oddly defuse.  The top 25 ranking appears to be yards per game, which is a nice number, but tends to not be all that meaningful. Part of the reason he got there is because Washington state saw the fewest plays of any Leach defense.  It’s actually had a few decent ones in terms of yards per play or S&P+,  though the opponent adjustment in the really go go big 12 makes that weird.

I believe, at least going into the bowl game, it was still right on the border of being top 25 in S&P+ as well.
