For fun: Who would your all-time position players be?
« on: April 26, 2022, 11:13:50 PM »
If you were coaching a team, who would you want at QB, RB (2), WR (2), and TE?  Pick anyone from the history of college football.
Just for fun.
.
I'll take Tebow at QB.
Reggie Bush and Bo Jackson at RB.
Peter Warrick and Troy Edwards at WR.
Kyle Pitts at TE.
.
Tebow is obvious...not "right," just obvious.  He also acts as the hammer for the offense, so I don't need a FB or Earl Campbell type for inside runs.  Bo is plenty powerful enough and Bush was just amazing.
.
At WR, I was thinking a speed guy and a possession guy.  For me, Edwards is my possession guy and an easy pick.  Warrick might not be among the fastest ever, but his juking ability was sick and he could get open and make big plays.  He's a guy who would have won a Heisman in an alternate universe.
.
This probably looks like a homer pick, but Pitts' 2020 season was all-time great.  His numbers extrapolated out to a full season would've been 1,200 yds and 19 TDs at TE.  No one could cover him.  He had zero drops on the season.  Yes, I'll take the TE who finished 10th in Heisman voting and was taken 4th overall in the draft.

I'm missing some old-timey guys, but I'm okay with that.

I'd like to see
QB, I may be here awhile before I figure that out.  Lamar Jackson, VY, and Wuerffel would be fun as a trio.
Marcus Dupree and Herschel Walker in the backfield at tailback (or run the bone)  Warrick Dunn would be my #3
Lydell Carr at FB
Troy Edwards and Michael Crabtree at WR
Keith Jackson at TE
Johnny Rodgers as my WB/PR

Suh, Green, Selmon (pick any of the bros.) and T. Suggs
Bosworth, Spielman, LT, C. Bennett
Deion, Lott, Woodson, Woodson
Punter: S. Lechler
Kicker: M. Grammatica

probably a couple guys playing a little bit out of position on the defensive side, but I like this group.

Warrick was a freak.  He and Eric Metcalf have to be two of the best jukers I've ever seen, always avoiding contact, kind of like LJ his heisman season, just doing what they want while everybody else was on ice skates.

we're talking just college, I'm taking Vince Young at QB. Barry Sanders and Bo Jackson at RB. Charles Rogers and Desmond Howard at WR. Aaron Hernandez at TE.

man that line-up would score a f**kton of points.

I'd put in a vote for Joe B. at QB, though VY was certainly very worthy.  I'd think about Champ Bailey playing DB and WR just to save space.  Orlando and Joe in the OL.

Yeah, that Joe, I might have an "all Joe team", that would be cool.

Pick a Badger?

Running back is a hard one to pick. What kind of back do you want?

Blazing speed? Bruiser? Dancer? Pass-catcher? Combination?

Depends on the OLine too, of course.

JT23 to me is the best Badger back of all, and he ran behind a worse OL than guys like Gordon, Ball, Dayne, etc. His YAC was simply amazing, and he could fly.

I'd choose a team based on "ordinary Joes".  I bet it would be pretty good, I mentioned two already.  Add Joe Green, if you want to get mean.

Warrick was a freak.  He and Eric Metcalf have to be two of the best jukers I've ever seen
Metcalf was amazing,he singlehandedly beat the Squeelers in like 93/94.Think he ran back a K.O. and a punt for TD.Had all sorts of tardage in open space, just an incedible performance. That was in the mud at old Municipal Stadium in Cleveland. On artificial/synthetic turf they were grabbing air
Suburbia:Where they tear out the trees & then name streets after them.
