Before 1939 it was a rare accomplishment for Iowa to defeat Minnesota. In fact, before the 1939 game, Iowa lost the preceding 8-games in this series. The trophy, was commissioned in 1935, and was first won by these Hawkeyes, and their teammates, in 1939.

Results against common opponents in 2022:

Ferentz vs. Fleck: 5-0

I'd like Farmageddon also if a certain band of bugeaters would keep up their end

Tanner Morgan was in street clothes for the Northwestern game after being injured in the 1st half against Nebraska. I was looking at the Iowa-Minnesota game being competitive with advantage Minnesota for three primary reasons: (1) Iowa's offense is horrible. (2) Minnesota's defense has been good, ranked 7th in YPG coming into Nov. 12. (3) It is a Minnesota home game.
On the other hand: (1) Tanner Morgan was dressed in street clothes for the Northwestern game. (2) Iowa has won the past 5-games in the series. (3) A PJ Fleck coached team has not defeated Iowa. (4) Iowa usually plays better in November (currently harboring a 12-game November win streak). (5) If you look at the offense and defensive stats you would favor Minnesota, but Iowa's strength of schedule is 31 and Minnesota's is 72, so you cannot view the stats in isolation without considering who they played. (6) Iowa has performed better against common opponents.
I am beginning to lean toward Iowa. This could come down to an untimely turnover, and a field goal; each team has an excellent kicker.

This seems to be the next stop in the Kirk Ferentz STFU redemption tour.  While other schools were firing their head coaches and coordinaters and  benching their QB's in mid-season,  Kirk was insisting he had to change absolutely nothing and all they had to do was practice, practice, practice to get better.  There may be some merit to this, Kirk has not lost a game in November since 2019.  Which may be a sign that Iowa is built for games outdoors in the cold and the wind.

Of course it also helps to get Michigan and OSU behind you on the schedule, and it's still hard to explain just how bad the offense was the first 7 games of the season, and it's still debatable if the offense really has improved after only getting 146 yards against Wisc.

So let's not get carried away here. Everybody knows if Iowa does not get any breaks (takeaways), they lose because the offense is not capable of consistently winning games for Iowa.  So I still rate this game a toss-up,  Minn might even have a slight edge because it's at Minn.  Nothing easy here.

I don't think it's debatable  - the offense hasn't improved - 146 is not good

this does not set up great for Minnesota outside of I dont think Iowa really likes playing in the temps that are coming this weekend in Minnesota

Minn at QB- decision do you give the ball to Tanner who might be accurate but cannot move well and cannot throw deep well. or to a freshman who will make mistakes and might give the ball away at times throughout the game?
one Minnesota offense is one dimensional and the other could give the ball away more

leads me to bet on Iowa  albeit it is at Minnesota and the cold Will play a part of the game
