September 24 Poll
1. Alabama (4-0)
2. OHIO STATE (4-0)
3. USC (4-0)
4. PENN STATE (4-0)
5. MICHIGAN (4-0)
6. Louisville (4-0)
7. Florida State (3-1)
8. WISCONSIN (3-0)

I'm not saying I disagree because I don't, but this will really highlight that gulf between the top-4 in the B1G and the rest.  We have three of the top-5 and four of the top-8.  Both of those are amazing.  But there are no other ranked teams and the next best (by record) are:
  • 3-0 Northwestern (projected to lose to UW this week)
  • 3-1 Iowa (projected to beat MSU this week)
  • 3-1 Nebraska (projected to beat Illinois this week)
  • 3-1 Indiana (projected to lost to PSU this week)
  • 2-1 Minnesota (projected to beat Maryland this week)
  • 2-1 Maryland (projected to lose to Minnesota this week)
Iowa, Nebraska, or the Minnesota/Maryland winner might sneak in to the top-25 at 4-1 or 3-1 but this projects that as of late September we'll have four playoff contenders and 10 bad teams.

4 of the top 7 is less strong evidence of bias when you also have like 4 of the top 40.  When it's 4 of 7 and 7 of 20, that's different.

IIRC that was more the complaint, not how high the top teams were ranked but how high the middle, even low middle teams were, so that no matter who you played it was a "good" win/loss so temas could never drop, because even playing the 9th best team in the conference was a ranked opponent.

Looking at the B12 and B1G teams in your projected October 1 Poll it strikes me that the OU/tOSU game is VASTLY more important to the Sooners and the B12 than it is to the Buckeyes and the B1G:

From the perspective of the Buckeyes:  If the Buckeyes were to lose to OU then you could probably roughly trade places between Ohio State and Oklahoma.  A #14 ranked 3-1 Ohio State, would still be very much in the playoff picture with opportunities to prove themselves against #3 PSU, #4 Michigan, and #7 Wisconsin.

From the perspective of the B1G:  There would still be two teams in the top-4, another very close, and a fourth close enough to get in.  Moreover, if any other B1G team were to win the conference they would get major rankings boosts from wins over some of those teams so the B1G would still be VERY involved in the CFP race.

From the perspective of the Sooners:  They have only the OkSU game to improve their profile but they'll still need help.  With the loss to Ohio State they will likely find themselves behind the B1G Champion in the CFP pecking order either because it is the Ohio State team that they lost to or because it is a team that beat Ohio State.  They'll also likely be behind the SEC and ACC Champions which leaves them needing the P12 Champion to be a weak team.

From the perspective of the B12:  They are basically out of the CFP conversation unless/until the higher ranked conference leaders get beat.

except they had legitimate arguments for those rankings. not that the b1g teams in yours don't/wouldn't, they would as well. and why couldn't 3 of top 5, 4 of top 10, or 7-8-9 of top 25 be from one conference? it's not impossible nor is it unreasonable. unlikely, maybe, but not unreasonable and almost certainly not conspiratorial.

but mostly i'm just busting some chops here. hell, with the results here, i'd expect at least 2-3 of neb, minn, iowa, nw to be in the top 25 somewhere, and the other(s) to be near the top of the also receiving votes.
