I could easily edit Florida's entire vanilla bean roster from scratch in a day.  A couple of dozen guys doing that for a handful of teams each, given 6 weeks.....yeah.  And everyone doing the work would be especially glad to do it, considering.
Problem is only one person can have the file checked out at a time.

I mean you don't have to trust me, you can go see the thread.  It's never fully done by the start of the season, and they start it in the spring.

1 - they did it in a couple weeks in the past. it really depends on the mechanism ea uses to edit rosters. but even with ps2 save cards you could have one finished and shipped to you before the season started. once online file share was enabled, it got much faster they'd part out rosters to edit and it's get done in a few days.
Yes, when they were taking an existing roster and just naming it.

Now that they are editing everything themselves, and only one person can have the file out at a time, it's taking them months.  You don't have to believe me, you can go look at the project.  They are all archived on their boards.

For people who love the game, they've been playing the same exact game for 6 years now.  EA's challenge is (well, was...and will be) improving gameplay/adding in other things for people to buy the game annually.
This is how we got mascot games, all-time great teams (I miss that one), etc.

The sites that have guys working on the rosters 24/7 are the perfect place for those who complain that a game is the same with just updated rosters.  It's a free alternative.  Just download the gamertag and you have updated rosters.

For EA, as long as their new game is as good as they were before, they'll have a major success year 1, because of 2 default reasons:
1 - the market is salivating for it, and
2 - it'll be on the nextgen platform and will automatically look better and run (cpu) faster.

Basically they have the ultimate grace period built in.
Yes, Year 1 will be a hit.  The issue is beyond that.

Right, but they're filling in the Idahos and Akrons then.
And that's if you don't lift a finger.  You can start a dynasty with all of the P5 done and all of the notable P5 players or top 5 players on each P5 team and not look back.

That's the point.  EA doesn't need anyone to look like anyone.

NCAA 2004 had College Classics - replay classic situations from the past.  Go for two again with 83 Nebraska and actually get it.  The Flutie game.  Kordell Stewart, etc.

2005 had create-a-school, which was cool.

2006 had historic teams, and in their era-specific uniforms.  I liked that feature a lot.

I guess that's where we differ.  I never started my dynasty until I had the fully edited rosters

You could "create a school" before 2005.

The first one, Bill Walsh football, had a 16 team tournament at the end of the season. I thought it was so awesome, when the second version, Bill Walsh 95, allowed you to play bowls instead of a tournament

I'd be stunned if the new version didn't have postseason choices, including bowl tie-ins (like in '16) and 4-8-16 team playoffs.

A 68 team playoff modeled after the hoops tourney, including the play in round?

That's what 2020 was - 64 P5 conference teams + ND + 3 G5 (Coastal Carolina, BYU, and Louisiana).
