I think humans are largely a bored species. 


Once we mastered (more or less) agriculture etc., "we" had free time and were bored with much of it.

So, to break up the monotony, we travel to places to see things, like fancy light shows.  And go ooh ahh.  And write on Internet message boards our pithy observations.

I have a theory that Christmas Vacation is the greatest Christmas ever made, while Christmas Vacation 2 is the worst Christmas movie ever made.

I've never seen either of those two movies, and that will continue to remain true.

I did watch "A Christmas Story Christmas" when it came out.  It wasn't great, but it did hit all the right nostalgic notes and had some obvious but welcome call-backs to the original.
