Chance for a CFB Season in 2020
« on: March 30, 2020, 06:33:02 AM »
This would include an abbreviated season, even one game played by two teams.  A further pondering would be what happens to player eligibility if most of the season is not played.

It would probably be irresponsible to start the season when it's supposed to start.
An interesting abbreviated season idea would be to only play conference games.  The potential bowl game matchups would be extra interesting, due to the lack of regular-season OOC games.

The complicating factor is that not all colleges are going to behave the same.

Per ESPN, that's all college football has been for the past 5 years.

I'd rather not think about it

Actually if the NCAA decided to shorten the football season, I would like to see a 6 game divisional season and then a 64 team tournament.  Each Power Five conferences would send their top 4 teams and the rest of the field would be selected by CFP Selection Committee.

Sam McKewon contemplates the fate of the 2020 season and says any version of college football is worth fighting for.

Online oddsmaker Draftkings Sportsbook released its 2020 college football futures on Tuesday, which included an over-under for Nebraska’s 2020 win total. The Huskers had an over-under of eight wins set by the oddsmaker. Going over that win total would likely exceed expectations given Nebraska’s challenging schedule in 2020.

As you might imagine, defending Big Ten champion Ohio State has DraftKings’ highest over/under win total in the league at 11. That is second only to Clemson (11.5) nationally. Penn State and Wisconsin are tied for the second spot in the Big Ten at 9.5, with Michigan checking in at an even 9. Nebraska is at 8 and Iowa 7.5.

Likewise, Ohio State is the clear betting favorite among Big Ten teams when it comes to winning the College Football Playoff, coming in a low +250. The Buckeyes are tied with Alabama for second in the nation there, trailing only … you guessed it … Clemson (+225). Michigan and Wisconsin also check in at +5000, with Iowa at +8000 and Nebraska at +10,000.

It should be noted that DraftKings is warning anyone who plays these odds that all bets will be void if the season is shortened.

UGA's prospects hinge on how good this Wake QB transfer turns out to be, and obviously he would benefit greatly from August practice etc.  The rest of the team should be pretty solid, but that is a large potential miss.

Iowa State has cut the pay and bonuses for all coaches. Maybe that is a hint of what is to come - or what isn't coming.
