CFB51 Awards... it's that time.
« on: December 11, 2019, 10:38:42 PM »
good eve all, i hope this finds y'all well and in a Christmas Spirit.

Cutting to the chase:

I've decided to make some awards.  Not to any of us, but from us.

i recently inherited a ShoBot CNC Router, and... I've been making stuff for weeks.  It occurred to me to entwine our 'thing' here with that thing... I've (somewhat) selfishly decided to make the first of (as many as we want or think appropriate) awards, and based off of TRUE fandom.  Not any commercial interests and not running some line of BS biased thing like we see all the time.

the 'first' one was "Coaching Staff of 2019", and the machine will carve it out tomorrow.  attached is a rendition of the carving- on black walnut, 12"w x 4"h x 34"d... it will be stained and polished, and painted where appropriate.  the image attached is what the software generates, and.. it's really accurate as to what comes off the machine.  Once it's stained/finished, i'll post an updated image.

the 'bones' of the plaque ought to be apparent.  however, the 'awards' aren't.  This is where i'd like some help.  Suggestions on awards YOU ALL THINK APPROPRIATE as well as the recipient of those awards would be a fun exercise and will likely result in the award being created and offered in the same spirit as the one going in the machine tomorrow.

Coach Jeremy Pruitt- yeah, i'm biased, but... was awarded "Coaching Staff of 2019" because i'm the one (of three) with skin in this game and carrying the load to do this.  Aside from that, he did a helluva job putting and holding together that team, and a team who ultimately found themselves and bull dozed through the latter half of the season.

If any of you find this a worthwhile exercise, take the bull by the horns and start up a thread with a poll, title the award, and... we'll do it.  why the hell not?  to my knowledge nobody else (not corporate) is doing anything like it.  I would think it would be pretty slick for coaches/staffs/players to receive an award from a TRUE fan site.

thoughts?

Question...

Assuming there is no monetary value to these awards, to provide one to a player would in no way cause an NCAA violation, right?

I assume none of us are considered "boosters" to any schools [I know I'm not], and a simple wooden plaque isn't a gift card or a $100 handshake, but I want to make sure that if there are ANY concerns here that we know about and avoid them up front.

Otherwise we have to remove players from any and all awards.

Other than that, I think this is a smashing idea.

I thought about that... and... We can award their coaches and request the coach holds the award in a perverted form of escrow until the player departs... and there you have it.

I think it's OK though, so long as the award were to come from the CFB51 organization. I like the idea. Nice looking award there, Drew.

Yes, you are. So am I.
Actually, I'm not, at least according to this:

http://www.ncaa.org/enforcement/role-boosters

Because I don't live close to Purdue, I've never provided a donation in order to secure season tickets, and never donated to the John Purdue Club.

So I'm clean, because I'm 2000 miles away [and cheap]. :72:

I was a member of the UNL Touchdown club back in the day, but I think that club is defunct or merely evolved into something else

the season tickets that I paid for and used for over ten seasons were in someone else's name.  I made the check to them, not the university.

And I live a cross the state line

UW considers all alumni to be boosters. I had to take a test back in the day, after the shoe bulljive. All boosters did, for compliance redemption. They wouldn't renew your tickets if you didn't take the test.

The booster thing is a bit sketchy to me, and open to abuse.  I might have deep pockets and pay some "Alabama booster" to pay players and then turn him in.

And if I don't have season tickets or donation track records or whatever, I'm clearly not a booster in any sense that could be shown.

Too bad there's rumors of bootlegging that can't be quelled

The U of Minnesota consists all season ticketholders to be boosters, even if you aren't in donation seating. Furthermore, you retain that designation indefinitely.
