They had high schools back then?  Was History class called 'Current Events'?

I wager that '53 high school education is better than 95% of today's University educations. Maybe not better than one in its own time but far better than today's.

is there any interest in doing awards or is this something else that falls flat?

I've got one more coat of acrylic to hit the plaque with.  i decided no paint as simple is better, and it turned out fantastic (so far).  I'll post an image tonight or tomorrow if anyone is interested.

what other coaching staff pulled something remarkable off this season? what individual coach or staff was exceptional in their performance?

What about an award for being a solid student-athlete?

I'm thinking of something like the Don Key Award that OU gives out.

Quote
Don Key was a three-year starter for the Sooners, an All-Big 8 guard and potential All-American until cancer surgery ended his football career in 1981. Barry Switzer established the Don Key Award in 1982.

Oklahoma coaches describe the award as the highest honor an OU football player can receive while playing for the Sooners. It goes to the player who best exemplifies the many superior qualities of Key, both on the field and in the classroom.

But maybe not.  It might be difficult to get the "in the classroom" information.

Maybe other schools hand out similar awards and we could nominate candidates for the CFB51 award from those recipients.

Elijah Sindelar... Graduated with his BSEE and currently continuing with his masters while juggling the workload and schedule of a big ten QB.

Nick Basquine (Norman native who walked on) and Neville Gallimore (from Canada) shared the Don Key Award.

They've done well on the field, but I have not yet found anything about their classwork.
