I had some sort of italian beef sandwich. It was cold and the bread was soggy.
The bread is supposed to be "soggy"--they dip the bread in the jus after they assemble the sandwich. So I can't say anything about that. It's by design.

Cold isn't right, though... Was it eaten immediately or did you do take-out and it was a while before you ate?

Did you get peppers (either sweet peppers or spicy giardinera)?

We ate in the restaurant. I must have just had a bad experience from what everyone else says. I just can't do soggy bread though.

You can ask them to not dip it. That's a Chicago thing though. That's why you have to ask.

Frankly, Portillo's isn't the best place for Italian Beef sandwiches. They're passable, but not great.

Try the Jumbo Dog w/everything or the Maxwell St-style Polish sausage if you want something that's truly "Chicago". The cheeseburger / double cheeseburger is outstanding, but not really a Chicago specialty.

And get the cheese fries... Definitely the cheese fries.

100 percent spot on with the whole post. I never get a Beef at Portillo's.
