Nebraska will host ESPN's College GameDay this weekend. It will mark the
seventh time the show has originated from Lincoln and the first time since
the 2007 season.
Lincoln getting some Love, good they sure as hell won't be getting any starting at 7:30 Saturday Nite :character0029: title=character0029

This is only the eighth meeting between the Cornhuskers and Buckeyes.  Ohio State is 6-1 in the previous games and, of course, the one loss was the game I drove all the way to Lincoln to see in person.

They played two games in Columbus in the 1950's when Nebraska was down and Ohio State was up:

  • On September 24, 1955 the defending NC Buckeyes won 28-20 in Columbus.
  • On September 29, 1956 the Buckeyes won 34-7 in Columbus.
Then the B1G games started almost 60 years later.  The first B1G game between these two was also the very first B1G game ever played in Lincoln.  The Cornhuskers joined the league for the 2011 season.  They started out with four OOC wins (TN-Chat, Fresno, Washington, @WY) then lost their first ever B1G game in Madison.  The next week they hosted the Buckeyes:
  • On October 8, 2011 the Cornhuskers beat the Buckeyes 34-27 in Lincoln.  It was a very exciting game.
  • On October 6, 2012 the Buckeyes beat the Cornhuskers 63-38 in Columbus.
  • On November 5, 2016 the Buckeyes beat the Cornhuskers 62-3 in Columbus.
  • On October 14, 2017 the Buckeyes beat the Cornhuskers 56-14 in Lincoln.
  • On November 3, 2018 the Buckeyes beat the Cornhuskers 36-31 in Columbus.

you should be on the road to Lincoln this afternoon

the 2011 game is still the largest comeback in school history

hopefully Fields has better luck than Braxton Miller, but not too much better

Husker head coach Scott Frost, appreciates the love. In fact, he wants his players to embrace the coming days.

“Our guys need to learn how to be comfortable in these situations,” he said. “This is special. Regardless of how this game goes, we’re going to do the best we can. I hope we can win. Regardless of how this game goes, this is a special time for Nebraska. There are some big things coming this week. 'GameDay' hasn’t been here in 10 or 12 years. This is a good opportunity to highlight our program, the direction the program is going, the improvement we have made, the path that we are on.

“It’s going to be great to get national attention here in Lincoln. If we weren’t improving and getting better and going in a really good direction that was obvious to a lot of people, we wouldn’t have those guys on ESPN coming to town. This is special. Our guys need to be able to operate and flourish amidst whatever distraction brings along with it.”

“It’s fun. Anytime there is a spotlight on your campus, your university and your town, I think it’s a good thing,” Frost said. “If you let it be a distraction, it can be. They will probably mic me up at practice or something, but I don’t raise my voice much anyway, so I don’t know how much good footage they are going to get.

“I don’t want it to distract the players. It’s not going to distract us. We've got a really good team coming in here and we need to be at our best to have a chance to beat them.”

The Huskers have a long history of success under the lights in Lincoln.
• The Huskers have won 21 of their last 23 home night games at Memorial Stadium. NU is 47-7 alltime in Memorial Stadium night games, including a 44-8 victory over Northern Illinois on Sept. 14.
• Nebraska's dominance at night in Lincoln has been impressive, as 34 of the home night wins have
been by at least 13 points.
• The seven losses in home night games have all come against teams that won at least 10 games
in that season (Washington, 1991; Texas, 2002; USC, 2007; Virginia Tech and Missouri, 2008;
Wisconsin and Ohio State, 2017). Ohio State is the last team to win a night game at Memorial
Stadium, defeating the Huskers in 2017.

There haven't been many cracks for OSU.  The defense is night and day compared to last year.  However, they have had a few injuries, and were missing a whole front line on the DL last week.  Also, safety Isaiah Pryor has entered the transfer portal and apparently left the program, so that's a knock at safety depth.

On the other side, Fields hasn't had to deal with a lot of pressure, and he can take his time in delivering the ball, so it will be interesting to see whether Nebraska can make him uncomfortable.

Should we give Nebraska a fighting chance here?  I slim chance?  Almost no chance?

Maybe the game is somewhat close at the half and OSU gets rolling?  Maybe Nebbie jumps out to say a 5-0 lead and shocks the world.

Fields had plenty of time in the pocket on the TD highlights last week

the Huskers will do whatever they need to bring at least moderate pressure

Are you kidding me? I expect a complete dog fight to the bitter end.
Field has yet to face a truly hostile crowd and a truly Roccus environment. This is his first. Ohio State defense has seen nothing like this Nebraska offense which is as dynamic and explosive is any day will see all year.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Yup,last year after they signed Grinch as the heir apparent to the DC gig I thought with him and Schiano would make things work.Well they lost 3 starters Bosa in the 1st rd,Jones in the 3rd rd,Sheffield in the 4th.So both Grinch & Schiano are gone Mattison steps in and things SO FAR are much smoother.Could be the over all more experience but right now Greg Mattison gets a 2 a two thumbs up

Where you going this weekend? I want to know before I place bets.    . . .  I am not actually a betting man, but if I were.
